I still don’t think it’s sunk in.

Another World Cup. Another penalty shootout. Another heartbreak.

As Dutch supporters, it sometimes feels like we’re trapped in the same story. We’ve lived through the finals, the near misses, the “what ifs”… and somehow there’s always another chapter to add.

Yesterday hurts. It’ll probably hurt even more over the next few days when the stadiums empty, everyone goes home, and this tournament becomes another memory.

But when I look back, I don’t want to remember the penalties first.

I’ll remember the people.

The old friends I saw again. The new friends I made. The fan walks. The songs. The conversations. The sea of orange wherever we went.

Those moments are why I keep coming back.

Following the Netherlands has never been about guaranteed success. It’s about believing, even when history tells you to be careful. It’s about accepting that heartbreak is part of the journey because the moments in between make it all worth it.

Thank you to everyone who made these past weeks unforgettable.

This one hurts.

But if the next tournament started tomorrow…

I’d put the orange suit on again without thinking twice.

See you all in September 🧡
