Horizontal trim gets taught like it's the goal. It's not.
It's a starting point. A default position that works well in open water and in most of a cave — until it doesn't.
Restrictions, silt-outs, low ceilings, working a reel, shooting a bag, dealing with an entanglement — none of that happens in a perfectly flat, horizontal body position. Functional trim means your body position matches the task and the environment, not a photo you saw on Instagram.
If you're locked into "flat = correct" as a rule instead of a tool, you'll fight the cave instead of moving through it.
Horizontal is a skill. Adapting it is the skill that keeps you alive.
