Aikido San Miguel

This is how many women were practicing at camp!

What a pleasure it is to have over 35 women train at this year’s CAF Summer Camp from all different ranks, ages, countries, and backgrounds. Today we were able to meet together during lunch to properly introduce ourselves and celebrate the great strides we have made as leaders and participants in the Canadian aikido community. Thank you to the women who started momentum decades ago to promote equality for all in this great martial art that has traditionally been very male-dominate.

Dojo organizations, such as Myrna Harrod-Taniguti Sensei’s Valkyries and BigRock Aikikai’s Ferocious and Female have significantly supported young women and girl’s aikido success by giving them a space to feel included, safe, empowered, and encouraged to work hard, train hard, laugh hard, and build a better aikido community

We celebrate all of you who train and continue to be strong, fearless role models for future aikido generations!
