Good Morning Divers and Future Divers!! If you are considering learning to dive (or talking a friend into learning because you need a dive buddy), here are a couple tips to consider...
- If you are not comfortable in the water, scuba diving will not fix this for you. Take some swim lessons before your scuba course to get comfortable. It will be a huge help!
- Consider starting with a PADI DSD (Discover Scuba Diving). It is a great intro! If you love it, your dsd can potentially be used as credit toward your certification.
- Choose a training center and/or instructor that is patient. You want to have a safe experience versus just getting through the course ASAP. I know, you would think all instructors and dive centers would put safety first. Remember the dive industry can be expensive, but not much of the money actually makes it to the dive center or the instructors. So occasionally, a few dollars can make all the difference in more ways than you can know.
- Ask yourself why you want to learn to dive. Double verify with yourself that your motivation is legit for you. No pressure. Diving is not for everyone. But, neither are a lot of things. Know your why!
- Going slow is ok! Doing your confined dives locally and your open water dives somewhere warm is a great option too! So many options!!
