Important Update for Divers Traveling to Cozumel

According to an announcement from local tourism and customs authorities, taxes on personal dive and underwater photography equipment have been temporarily suspended through September 1st.

During this period, authorities will work with the diving industry to create clear guidelines defining which personal recreational equipment is exempt from taxation and establish a standardized declaration process.

For now, travelers bringing personal dive and photography gear should not be subject to these taxes while a permanent solution is being developed.

Selon une annonce des autorités touristiques et douanières locales, les taxes appliquées à l’équipement personnel de plongée et de photographie sous-marine sont temporairement suspendues jusqu’au 1er septembre.

Pendant cette période, les autorités travailleront avec l’industrie de la plongée afin d’établir des règles claires concernant l’équipement personnel exempté de taxes ainsi qu’un processus de déclaration uniforme.

Pour le moment, les voyageurs transportant leur équipement personnel de plongée et de photographie ne devraient pas être soumis à ces taxes pendant qu’une solution permanente est mise en place.

To assist our visitors in preparing for their trip to Cozumel, we would like to share important information regarding personal items that may be brought into Mexico duty-free, in accordance with current Mexican Customs regulations.

Travelers are generally permitted to bring personal belongings, electronic devices, medications, books, documents and up to two sets of personal sports equipment, including scuba diving gear, provided these items are intended for personal use and are appropriate for the duration of their stay.
