Advanced Open Water diver. Around 50 dives. New dive site. Strong current. 30 m depth. Limited visibility.

Instead of simply saying “yes” or “no,” Steve looked at the combination of factors that actually matter, current experience, depth management, visibility, buddy experience and the dive plan.

One point stood out:

**A certification card and dive count don’t tell the whole story. Your actual experience in similar conditions matters.**

This is a spotted snake eel (Myrichthys maculosus). It spends much of the day buried beneath the sand, emerging to hunt small fish and crustaceans, usually after dark.
