— SURFACE EXHALE TEST —
Before you dive, check your weighting!!
Many freedivers add extra weight because it makes the descent feel easier.
But overweighting can make the ascent harder, less efficient, and less safe.
A simple way to check your weighting is the Surface Exhale Test (or buoyancy check)
This test simulates the low lung volume you would have during a surface blackout, helping ensure that you will still remain at the surface if something goes wrong.
➡️ How to do it
1️⃣ Hold onto the buoy
2️⃣ Inhale deeply and exhale (without forcing all air out).
3️⃣ Relax your body and gently release the buoy without moving.
✔ Your head may dip underwater slightly.
❌ But you should not start sinking.
If you sink → you are likely overweighted.
Remove some weight and repeat the test.
Safe weighting = safer and more relaxed dives.
Wave 2 — Static Buddy training & Rescue
Freediving is built on trust.
During static apnea training, we practice the role of the buddy and how to perform rescue:
Staying present, watching the diver carefully, checking time and responsiveness.
A good buddy creates a space where the diver can truly relax.
When you know you are in good hands…
your mind lets go.
And that’s where the magic of static apnea begins ✨

Why we teach Wave 1 over 4–5 days? ✨
Many freediving courses are completed in 2–3 days. While possible, it can be quite intense when you are learning the foundations of relaxation, breathing, breath-hold, depth, and equalization.
At La Casa Surya, we prefer to teach Wave 1 over 4–5 days.
Why?
✨ More time in the water
✨ More repetition to build confidence
✨ More time to understand technique
✨ A relaxed learning environment
Each morning we begin with the objective of the day, theory or review of previous sessions, video feedback, and technique improvement.
Because freediving is not about rushing — it’s about relaxation, awareness, and enjoying the process.
🐶 Even Dobby approves the relaxed learning atmosphere.
Congrats Eros for a beautiful Wave 1!
Welcome to the Molchanovs freediver family.
The journey has just begun — keep training!
Happy International Women’s Day 💜
Freediving is not only about strength & depth —
it’s about awareness, patience, and connection.
I feel incredibly grateful to share the water with so many inspiring women who come to learn, explore, and challenge themselves in the cenotes.
Watching confidence grow dive after dive is always magical.
To all the women diving, teaching, exploring and dreaming:
💙Dream big
💚Keep your promises
🧡Never give up
❤️Do what you love
💛Try new things
💜Believe in yourself.
Happy International Women’s Day ✨
Beautiful results come when we slow down, repeat, and stay focused on technique. ✨✨
Congrats Dominique for a calm, efficient, and comfortable 50 m dynamic with fins in your first session 💙
This is why we recommend taking Wave 1 over 5 days — there is a lot of learning happening, and the body needs time to absorb, adapt, and be ready to express its full potential.
