Will I be out of my comfort zone? Probably not!!
Our accommodations meet every need and steer clear of a glitzy atmosphere. It feels more personal, private and comfortable than most tourist destinations. Villas Shanti is a yoga retreat space for many that provides comfortable, modern amenities: fresh water, kitchenette, individual pantries, private baths, sunny, colorful courtyard with pool, and hammocks in the shade. And the endless white beach and turquoise water is 100 steps from your door. Here's a link to Villas Shanti, our retreat center: http://www.villasshanti.com
Puerto Morelos is 30 minutes from Cancun (where we fly into), and is a short drive (under 30 minutes) to amenities that we have stateside, such as Costco, Home Depot, etc. Local medical and dental service is excellent. For a map of myriad local amentities, see Alma Libre Bookstore's interactive local map: http://www.almalibrebooks.com/puertomorelos.htm. Transportation by cab is plentiful and inexpensive when you request it, and cars and bikes can be rented during your stay. Click through the photos to see the wonderful bookstore in town, Alma Libre.
Ex-pats, Europeans, Canadians, other foreigners and locals live in harmony in Puerto Morelos year-round, and work together to protect this unhurried fishing village from the pressure of tourism and development. Life is similar to our local norms, with freedom to get out for a jog, eat at local restaurants ranging from inexpensive to elegant, and walk the beach in the evening. A few photos of ex-pat friends and locals..

From the beginning, dive into the ease of it all. Gently waking, perhaps a sunrise stroll on the beach. Yoga in the thatched roof palapa to wake your body, mind, & spirit. Followed by a brunch in the courtyard of freshly prepared local food and a leisurely afternoon of rest or adventurous exploration... perhaps to local ruins or in the jungle for a dip in the Mayan sacred water of a cenote (say-noh-tay)!

Come experience a life centered around relaxation, yoga, healthy food, and nature. The water, sky, magic of the Mayan Yucatan. Time seems to slow down. The gentleness, playfulness, and space comes effortlessly as one falls into a more natural and easy rhythm of life. Sharing this with others. In the end returning home a softer, gentler, less encumbered soul.

Watching the moon at midnight
Solitary, mid-sky
I knew myself completely
No Part Left Out
