2nd GM IM Invitational Chess Championship 2026 is drawing to a close, with the last round starting at 10:00am earlier today. While many of the Malaysian hopefuls fell short of gaining their norms, many were able to earn valuable rating points to improve their standing.
But most importantly, the event has provided valuable experience for our local players in the intensity and competitiveness of playing in a prestigious and high-quality tournament.

The Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) extends our heartfelt thanks to all the foreign Grandmasters (GM) and International Masters (IM) that had spent valuable time to be here in Malaysia - GM Petr Kiriakov, GM Nagy Gabor, GM Duc Hoa, IM James Morris, IM Ilgar Bajarani, IM Mayank Chakraborty, IM Angelo Young, IM Lee Junhyeok, for competing in the event.

And of course, a HUGE THANKS to our very own GM Yeoh Li Tian for his commitment to play in the event when we approached him earlier in the year.

Our thanks to our Men's Olympiad Team - CM Chow Yi Chen, IM Chan Kim Yew, FM Kavin Mohan, FM Lim Zhuo Ren, and IM Tan Jun Ying for making it a full attendance for the event.

Special thanks to WFM Agnes Chong - the only woman participating and one of our Chess Olympiad Team members, taking some time off as she prepares to further her studies in Dublin later in September.

And to the rest of the Malaysian Players who have fought hard to improve their ranking - FM Wong Yinn Long, FM Anderson Ang, CM Uzair Shahar, FM Genivan, and (soon-to-be-CM) A'Qil A'Lauddin Abd Aziz.

The 3rd GM IM Invitational Chess Championship will once again be hosted by our gracious host - Jeumpa D'Ramo Boutique Hotel in Bangsar from 31st July 2027 until 9th August 2027

The 2nd edition of the National Open Team Rapid Chess Championship 2026 has been set for Saturday, 12th of September 2026, at the MSN Kompleks Banquet Hall CASA 4.

A total prize fund of RM17,000 has been set aside for the winning teams, with RM3k to the eventual champion, and RM1,300 to the best State Team. Plenty of prize categories for the Best U12 and Best U18 Teams, Best School, Best Veteran and Best Women Team, Best Corporate, Government and IPTA, including the best OKU Team also up for grabs.

4 players to a team with a time control of 15 mins + 10 seconds to be played over 7 rounds.

MCF and KLCA will once again organize and host a Commonwealth chess event with the Commonwealth Schools Chess Championship to be held from 4th of October to the 12th of October 2026

The 9-day event is staged for the first time since the idea was mooted by the Commonwealth President during his visit to Malaysia almost a year ago.

The event is expected to draw more than 300 players from all over Commonwealth Nations around the world, and Malaysian junior players should take the opportunity of playing on an international stage, as it provides a more affordable option compared to participating abroad.

MCF offers discounts to players who sign up before 15th August 2026, after which the normal rate will take effect. The closing date is set on the 4th of September 2026, and while MCF can opt to accept late entries with additional fees as penalties, it will depend on space and seat availability. From 18th September onwards, no further entries will be entertained.

Entries are open for Open/Boys and Girls events for the following age groups: Under 19, Under 17, Under 15, Under 13, Under 11, Under 9, and Under 7. Winners from the recently concluded Scholastic event will be contacted to confirm if they are taking their official slots to the event.

After 2 days with 7 rounds to play, the National Scholastic Chess Championship – Primary Age Group 2026 has officially concluded.

🏆 In the Boys U7 category Ihad Ulwa Bin Shahril came out as Overall Champions followed by Desswin A/L Kuganesan on 2nd place and Muhammad Irfan Khairi on 3rd place.

For Girls U7, Goh Yi Ke crowned as the Champion, 2nd place goes to Estelle Yap Chen Yi and 3rd place is Rudhraletchumy Rishikeshan.

🏅 In the Boys U9 category, 1st place goes to Ilman Mubin Bin Khairul Anuar, followed by Muhammad Aariz Daniel Bin Mohd Shah on 2nd place and Diyaz Ayden Bin Muhammad Dzarfan

For the Girls U9, Ayshah Sakeenah is the Champion with Annur Safiyyah Binti Akram on 2nd place and Alisya Zehra Binti Mohd Izuan on 3rd place

🎖️ In the Boys U11, Sow Yew Jet came out as the Champion followed by Muhammad Faez Ady Bin Norfadzly on 2nd place and Muhammad Annas Syahmi Bin Md Rizam on 3rd place.

For Girls U11, Belle Tan Liang Yi came out as the champion with Ashreeya Rao A/P Sangkaran on 2nd place and El Zehra Binti Mohd Eizuddin on 3rd place.

After more than 4 years of planning, MCF finally embarks on the Lifetime Player Registration at RM200 per person.

The RM20 registration is still open and will remain as it offers options for players who may not be inclined to continue chess as a long-term sporting activity. This is also a good option for students and children who are still unsure of their sporting direction, whether to maintain chess as a sport into their adulthood.

Special gifts are offered to those who signed up between now and 1st October 2026.

The MCF Office GP Circuits Quarterly Event has concluded. 2 days of grueling matches and learning experiences for the players.

🎖️Mohd Saprin Bin Sabri came out as the champion with 4 points coming home with RM600 followed by Kamaluddin Yusof with 3½ points and Alif Mikhael Bin Azmir with also 3½ points. AIM Kanes S/O Govindasamy is on the 4th place and WFM Ainul Mardhiah Binti Mohd Afif on 5th.

🎖️The U1800 goes to Izz Zara Aisyah Bt Rosnizam while the best Veteran goes to Chay Joon Hoong. The Best lady category secured by Azraa Adeline Azman.

For Girls U13, An Nur Alisha crowned as the Champion, 2nd place goes to Nur Aisya Aryana and 3rd place is Izz Zara Aisyah
