JKiNG (1997-2010) MALAYSIA SPORTS BRAND FROM JOHOR
JKing (often styled as JKiNG) was a prominent Malaysian local sportswear brand established in 1997. It was a subsidiary of TAJA Sukan Sdn Bhd, which in turn operated under the Johor Corporation (JCorp) conglomerate. As a homegrown local brand, JKing was highly regarded for producing quality teamwear and was considered one of the leading local brands in the Malaysian sporting goods.
Johor Ties: JKing built a deep-rooted association with football in the state of Johor, famously acting as the primary, long-standing jersey sponsor for the Johor FA and Johor FC teams. The brand even supplied kits to the national team for the 2002 Asian Games and 2003 SEA Games.
International Presence: In a rare feat for a Malaysian sporting brand, JKing expanded internationally by sponsoring Sydney United FC in Australia.
Rebranding and Decline: As global sportswear brands heavily penetrated the Southeast Asian market, JKing eventually phased out. The company rebranded and shifted its apparel operations to PROmade around 2012. The last time the JKing brand was prominently featured in the Malaysian Super League was in 2011, when it was worn by Johor FC.
Legacy: Today, original 1990s and 2000s JKing jerseys are highly sought-after collector's items among Malaysian football enthusiasts, symbolizing a significant era for locally made sporting apparel.
