'Embracing the Zen of Archery During the Fasting Month'
As the holy month of Ramadan dawns upon us, Muslims around the world embark on a journey of self-reflection, spiritual growth, and discipline. Fasting from dawn till dusk is not merely an act of abstaining from food and drink; it's a time for introspection, prayer, and connecting with one's faith on a deeper level. Amidst the fasting rituals and devout observances, there exists a serene activity that blends seamlessly with the spiritual essence of Ramadan - archery.
Archery, an ancient sport that demands focus, precision, and tranquility, provides a unique opportunity for individuals to engage in physical activity while fostering a sense of inner peace. For many Muslims, practicing archery during Ramadan serves as a harmonious complement to their spiritual journey, offering a chance to strengthen both the body and the soul.
One of the most striking aspects of archery is its alignment with the principles of mindfulness and concentration. As practitioners draw their bows, they enter a state of deep focus, shutting out distractions and immersing themselves entirely in the present moment. This meditative quality resonates profoundly with the spiritual aspirations of Ramadan, where believers strive to cultivate mindfulness in their prayers and daily actions.
Furthermore, the physical exertion involved in archery serves as a means of maintaining health and vitality during the fasting month. While fasting, individuals may experience fluctuations in energy levels, making it essential to find activities that promote well-being without overexertion. Archery offers a balanced form of exercise that engages both the body and the mind, allowing practitioners to stay active while honoring the traditions of Ramadan.
Beyond its individual benefits, archery also fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among participants. Many mosques and community centers organize archery sessions during Ramadan, providing a space for people to come together, bond, and share in the joy of the sport. These gatherings promote solidarity and unity, strengthening the social fabric of the community and reinforcing the values of compassion and fellowship central to Ramadan.
Moreover, archery holds a rich historical significance within Islamic culture, dating back to the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In Islamic tradition, archery has been praised as a noble pursuit, symbolizing discipline, skill, and courage. The Prophet himself is reported to have encouraged his companions to practice archery, recognizing its value as both a practical skill and a means of spiritual cultivation.
As Muslims engage in archery during Ramadan, they not only honor this legacy but also reaffirm the timeless wisdom embedded within the sport. Through the act of drawing the bow, releasing the arrow, and embracing the stillness that follows, practitioners find a profound sense of connection β to their faith, to their community, and to the divine.
In conclusion, archery during Ramadan is more than just a physical activity; it's a spiritual practice that embodies the essence of the fasting month. By embracing the art of archery, Muslims find a sanctuary of serenity amidst the rigors of fasting, a space where they can nurture their bodies, sharpen their minds, and deepen their spiritual awareness. As the arrows soar through the air, let us also soar in spirit, drawing closer to our Creator and to one another during this sacred time.
Now, who said when fasting we cannot training??

Alhamdulillah tahniah semua yang terlibat.
Let's talk Archery today..
In the world of archery.. when is a good shot, is a good shot?
On the field, I've seen & heard many times coaches & parents standing behind an archer trying to help or guide during a competition.. and one of the most common thing I hear is the phrase "Good Shot!".. as a coach myself, I observe many new archers competing.. and I believe this phrase means a lot to them especially in building confidence for their shots..
Then I thought to myself, when do we say a good shot is a good shot?.. is it when the arrow lands in yellow? Or when the archer executes a good shot in terms of following the shot cycle & technique that has been taught? Personally I prefer the latter, being done consistently.
I often see some coaches & parents say this phrase when an arrow lands in yellow, but did not observe the shot cycle the archer was doing.. maybe they were too focused in the result of the shot instead of making sure the archer execute a proper shooting process consistently, in order to get a consistent arrow group.. which could indicate if the archer is aiming correctly or if the archer needs ro adjust the sight pin in order get their arrows group at the intended place.
You may have different view of this, but as a coach I'd rather look at my archer's shot ex*****on consistency & work on improvements on the field rather then making them feel good about one arrow, but the rest are all over the target face.
So, when do we really call a good shot, a good shot?.. π
