BKS iyengar yogashala (BKSIYS)
"Yoga releases the creative potential in your life." – B.K.S. Iyengar Iyengar Yoga, is accessible to yoga practitioners of all levels from beginners to experts.
By balancing the body, it will bring balance to the mind. Well knowned for "Aliignment Techniques", it is a highly evolved form of Hatha yoga. Yogashala is fully equipped with the full range of well knowned Iyengar Props (ropes, blocks, blankets, chairs, bolsters and straps) to Setu Bandha Benches, Backbenders and more. With the use of these props, yoga becomes accessible to even the less open bodies, bringing the ideal alignment and skilful action when performing yoga asanas.
Practice becomes transformative when support is understood—not when effort is increased.
In yoga, doing more does not always mean progressing. Without clarity in alignment and intelligent use of support, the body often repeats patterns instead of evolving beyond them.
This session explores how props are not assistance for weakness, but precise tools for refinement.

When support is correctly applied, effort becomes quiet—and clarity begins.
The breath doesn’t lie.
Sometimes it catches because we are doing too much.
But in Adho Mukha Vīrāsana — Downward-Facing Hero Pose — the breath teaches in a quieter way.
This is not a pose of force.
Not a pose of ambition.
Not a pose where the body has to prove anything.
The body folds forward.
The front body softens toward the thighs.
The head descends.
The back body becomes easier to feel.
Here, the breath is not something to force.
It is something to observe.
As the body settles, the breath can be felt moving into the back ribs.
The back body widens.
The effort becomes quieter.
The mind begins to listen.
This is one of the lessons of Iyengar Yoga:
The breath can show us when we are straining.
But it can also show us when there is space.
Not every āsana teaches through intensity.
Some poses teach through quietness.
Next time you come into Adho Mukha Vīrāsana, do not rush to move on.
Stay.
Feel the back body breathe.
And ask:
Is the breath catching — or is the breath teaching?
Have you noticed your breath change in a quiet pose? Share your experience below.

A meaningful gathering with Dr. Master Tejawaro for a special talk on the Three Guṇas — Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas.
Through his sharing, we were reminded that yoga is not only a physical practice, but also a way of understanding the qualities that shape the mind, our actions, and our daily life.
Sattva brings clarity and peace.
Rajas brings movement and action.
Tamas brings heaviness and rest.
All three are present within us. The practice is to observe them, understand them, and gradually cultivate greater clarity, balance, and awareness.
Thank you, Dr. Master Tejawaro, for guiding us through this meaningful reflection on yoga, life, and the inner journey.
May the learning continue beyond the talk — into our practice, choices, and daily living.

The backbend doesn’t begin in the back.
It begins where the shins meet the earth.
In Ustrasana, many students rush toward the shape — head back, hips forward, chest thrown open.
But when the base is not clear, the lower back often takes the strain.
In Iyengar Yoga, we first observe:
The shins press down.
The thighs stay vertical.
The tailbone lengthens toward the knees.
The chest lifts before the spine arches.
This is what changes the pose.
Not more force.
More intelligence.
Ustrasana teaches us that a backbend is not about how far you can go. It is about whether the body is organised from the foundation.
At BKS Iyengar Yogashala, we teach backbends progressively — with preparation, props, timing, and careful observation.
Come and practise with us.
