Think of the best leader you've ever worked with. Was it their strategy or trustworthiness that made you want to give your 100%?
I had one leader who really lived out the principles of Positive Psychology. When I was relatively still junior in my previous company, this leader entrusted me with a high profile project because he knew I was competent enough for it. That gave me more motivation to deliver as expected.
Today, even when we're not colleagues anymore, we still have a close friendship and he still offers me beneficial projects. This is the enduring effect of trust.

🚨 Forget hazard lights—this is rookie manager energy. 🚗💡
This driver taped a sign: “My rear & brake lights not working. Please be careful.”
New managers know the feeling:
👉 “My leadership signals aren’t working yet… please be patient!”
Sometimes, in the first few months, it often looks like this:
⁉️ Unsure how to “signal” boundaries, e.g., when am I the manager? And when am I a peer?
🙊 Learning to communicate without causing pile-ups: How do I have difficult conversations?
😩 Hoping the team reads the sign before things get messy -- How will I manage the journey ahead?
But here’s the twist—just like this driver, honesty saves the day.

Every Chinese New Year in Malaysia and Singapore, our families gather around the “yee sang” platter, chopsticks raised, voices loud, tossing hopes for prosperity into the air.
I knew that “yee sang” was reinvented here in Southeast Asia but I got curious about its history. What was once a modest Chaozhou (Teochew) raw fish dish ("yusheng") is now a vibrant, symbolic, and communal “yee sang” Malaysians know of today.
That reinvention got me thinking of the Solution-Focused (SF) practice:
🌠 Future Orientation: Just as Solution-Focused practice asks, “What do you want instead?”, our ancestors asked, “How can this dish embody our hopes for the year ahead?” And so, a simple delicacy was transformed to a ritual of abundance, full of color and crunch.
🐟 Amplifying Strengths: The essence of fresh fish as abundance remains the highlight of the dish. Similarly, SF coaches amplify what’s already working in a client’s life.
🥢Collective Co-Creation: Tossing yee sang is noisy, joyful, and shared. Solution-Focused change is also co-created. Every upward step, however small, is celebrated with the same energy.
✨ This transformation doesn’t mean discarding the old, just simply reimagining it into something hopeful, future-focused, meaningful.
So, this holiday, the family of BRIEF Academy sends greetings of "nian nian you yu" -- abundance imagined and spoken to be enacted together. 🏮Xin nian kuai le.🏮

Homecoming is such a special time! 🥰
BRIEF Academy just planned a simple tea time gathering last Saturday but our Solution-Focused Coaches are just built different. Their spiritedness warmed up our new office, too.❤️🔥
They returned with so much energy. Although it was supposed to be for only 2 hours, everyone stayed beyond that. They can't wait for more practices and new connections in 2026.🆒️
Getting this 'Already Better Community' back together is just a great way to move into the new year.🥰

The first time I learnt to use gym equipment was at a Curves gym in my neighborhood. I really enjoyed working out there, with a trainer on-hand to instruct and watch me.
When I made friends with Margaret, little did I know that we'd have many things in common:
💪🏼 She also loves strengthening her muscles, especially at the gym.
🗣 She has conducted training before, specializing in ERM.
🚗 We drive cars of the same make (iykyk)
🍜 We're supposed to watch what we eat, too. Today, we had plant-based Japanese food 🥗 😋
💗 Health and wellness are of priority to ourselves as well as our clients/members. (After all, she is with the management of Curves Malaysia.)
Funny how the universe brings people together. What an interesting time together.

Is volunteerism about giving? Ever noticed how giving often gives you back in unexpected ways? No, volunteering isn’t just about giving—it’s about growing.
As a coach, I’ve seen how stepping into volunteer roles has deepened empathy and strengthened my ability to hold space for others.
Whether I'm facilitating a community workshop, being present to listen or simply lending a hand, these volunteer moments have shaped my coaching approach. My personal development is when theory connects with humanity. And it often begins in service.
