Myth 1
Abdominal exercises like crunches for example are popular because many people think doing them is a way to get visible abs. The truth is, spot reduction or reducing fat in a particular area is not possible, but if you lose overall fat in your body and become lean enough, the abs would begin to show.
Myth 2
Lifting weights is quite commonly associated with making people bulky, especially when it comes to women. The truth is, strength training or lifting weights on its own does not make one bulky unless coupled with a caloric surplus. Weightlifting actually builds lean muscle mass and strengthens the bones, giving one a fit physique.
Myth 3
Soreness after a workout is normal and many people experience this. While muscle soreness generally isn’t a bad thing, it shouldn’t be used solely as an indicator of an effective workout. Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) occurs after an exercise session due to microscopic tears in the muscle fibres. It is common especially if you’re doing new exercises, haven’t exercised in a while or haven’t recovered fully after exercising, not inherently because you had a proper workout.
Stay fit and active!
