'When we're naked, it's like we're all the same': Yoga studio offers all-nude co-ed classes to overcome body issues and vulnerability

One New York City yoga studio has taken yoga’s flexible principles to the next level by offering co-ed, naked vinyasa courses.
The class, introduced the Bold & Naked studio in Chelsea, is supposed to provide students with a new way to focus on celebrating their bodies and is not intended to be sexually evocative.
'There are a lot of things that separate us in a normal yoga class, like what brand of yoga clothing you're wearing or how you look when you're wearing it,' Vanessa Kennedy, a naked yoga class attendee, told Reuters. 'But when we're naked, it's like we're all the same.'

About BaliSpirit Festival

The BaliSpirit Festival - 7 years of magic!
As the BaliSpirit Festival celebrates its seventh year, news of this gathering of world-renowned musicians, yogis and dancers from every continent has spread across the globe. The BaliSpirit Festival has become a magnet for fans, students and followers of every yoga, movement, healing and music calling. Weeks before the Festival, Ubud begins to fill with a colorful, international tribe of conscious travelers, gathering in anticipation of one of the world's most inspiring events.

The first Festival in 2008 was pulled together in just three months—an incredible achievement for the Festival's founders, as well as a dream come true: They shared a vision to create a Festival that would both build and support community through the full spectrum of yoga and a rich diversity of world music and dance.

In 2008, Bali's tourism industry had not yet recovered from the devastating social and economic impacts of the 2002 and 2005 bombings. Building upon their love for the island and creative passion for yoga, dance, and music, the founders pooled their resources to develop an economically and environmentally sustainable annual event that would become a beacon for the burgeoning market of holistic travelers and attract domestic and foreign visitors back to the hills of Ubud. In 2013, the festival attracted over 6,000 guests during its five days of festivities, including visitors from 50 countries and 1,000 Balinese and Indonesians.

Set in the spectacular grounds of the Purnati Center for the Arts in Batuan, just 10 minutes south of Ubud, the Daytime Workshops and Dharma Fair enjoy an open-air venue unmatched for its inspiring, tropical beauty. Styles of yoga and movement have included Hatha, Vinyasa Flow, Yin, Laughter, Power, Anusara, Ashtanga, Silat, Capoeira, Poi, Qi Gong, and Juggling. Dance styles draw from Mandala, Javanese, Balinese, Indian, and West African traditions.

The "One World Stage" evening concerts take place in the heart of Ubud, at the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) outdoor stage, allowing easy access for both visitors and Ubud residents. This unique series of concerts knits together the distinctive traditional and contemporary musics of Bali and greater Indonesia with visiting artists from every world genre and every of the globe.

Over the past six years, the BaliSpirit Festival has worked alongside partner organizations in Bali, as well as international yoga teachers and musicians, to raise more than USD $75,000 for the Festival's annual Karma (Giving Back) outreach initiatives. Funds have contributed to children's programs, multicultural education & performances, health clinics, HIV & AIDS awareness, & environmental protection. The BaliSpirit Festival currently operates two outreach programs annually: The HIV & AIDS education program Ayo! Kita Bicara HIV & AIDS and the reforestation initiative, Bali ReGreen, as well as supporting other programs.

The BaliSpirit Festival is indeed a celebration—of the richness of culture, the sanctity of the environment, and harmony between people of all nations. Celebrate with us, and in doing so, help us to make the world a better place.

6 Reasons You Should Sleep Naked

A recent study showed that less than 10 percent of Americans sleep in the buff. Whaa? Not only is it dead sexy, experts swear naked sleep is actually good for you. We asked them to spill on the top reasons you should ditch those pajamas for good.

By Natasha Burton

1. You'll Air Out Your Hoo-Ha
Jennifer Landa, MD, author of The S*x Drive Solution for Women, says that sleeping naked can be healthier for your private parts. While it's totally normal to have yeast and bacteria down there, the warm environment can sometimes cause an overgrowth. One way to prevent infections is to "air it out" and go commando.

2. You'll Sleep Better
While you might like being cozy and warm at night, it's actually important to have a cooler environment when you sleep, says Lisa Shives, MD, who sits on the National Sleep Foundation's board of directors. "Your body temp progressively declines as you sleep, which is a natural tendency of the body, so being too warm with heavy PJs and blankets can disrupt that." Sleeping naked, she says, can help your body stay cool.

3. You'll Look Hotter
According to naturopath Natasha Turner, best-selling author of The Hormone Diet, being too warm at night disrupts the release of melatonin and growth hormone-your main anti-aging hormones-into your body. "As your body temperature drops, growth hormone is released and works its regenerative magic," she says. And that keeps your skin and hair looking awesome.

4. You'll Lose Belly Fat
Sleeping naked helps you sleep more soundly, which will allow your levels of the stress hormone cortisol to decrease as you rest, keeping your energy and hunger levels in check, Turner says. When your sleep is disrupted, your cortisol will be too high when your alarm goes off, making you more likely to wake up hungry for comfort foods-and more likely to overeat them.

5. You'll Feel More Confident
Sleeping naked feels great, Landa says. "We can tune in to sensations like the feeling of the sheets and the coolness of the air, which can be very sexy" she says. "And feeling sexy increases confidence."
6. You'll Have Better S*x
Landa says that sleeping naked is great for your relationship because laying skin to skin will increase feel-good chemicals like the cuddle hormone oxytocin. "Sleeping naked encourages sexier relationships," she says. You'll feel more relaxed and be more in the mood for intimacy.
