I started playing at the age of nine, thanks to my class teacher who introduced me to badminton. I spent my childhood training constantly outside of school. Many of my classmates and I took up badminton; we trained hard, competed and spent time together right until the end of university. From childhood onwards, we grew up as a family in the sports hall. We were both athletes and coaches.

Until the end of university, I worked entirely to improve my sporting performance. At the same time, I was also working hard to succeed academically. I am currently working as a research assistant in the Coaching Education Department of the Faculty of Sports Sciences. I spend time with my fellow badminton players, coaches, referees, federation members, academic lecturers, and most importantly, my family. I enjoy exchanging ideas and spending time with different people in various settings, and learning from them.

My primary school teacher introduced me to the sport and spoke to the parents of those who wanted to take part. With my parentsโ€™ permission, I attended my first training session in the hall and continued playing badminton because I really enjoyed it.

When I first walked into the hall, I was struck by the sight of people of all ages playing together. I grew to love the sound the shuttle made when it hit the racket, and I always wanted to play. As time went on, I received praise for developing into a responsible and disciplined person. As it is an active sport that involves no physical contact, my family always supported my training with peace of mind, knowing it was helping me stay healthy.

It became an integral part of my life and a defining period. I used to plan my social life around my training days. I had grown accustomed to living with a focus on factors such as nutrition and sleep, and I was thoroughly committed to this routine. At the same time, acting with a sense of team spirit made me feel good.

Iโ€™ll never forget the moment I was selected to the Turkish national team, because it was a dream come true. Once Iโ€™d experienced that feeling, I never wanted to give up badminton.

I also canโ€™t forget how, thanks to me, my family members got to know the sport, took an interest in tournaments, and started playing it as a hobby. I really enjoyed that time. Thanks to badminton, I had the opportunity to watch Europeโ€™s best players. I feel very lucky to have met my team coaches; they always treated us like family, and it was thanks to them that we progressed. At the same time, I met academic lecturers conducting research in this field, and it was through them that I entered the academy.

Itโ€™s a sport that everyone should try. Playing badminton is a chance for me to unwind. It reminds me that I need to have fun and forget about the negative aspects of my daily life, even if just for a moment. Most importantly, it is a non-contact sport. It promotes the development of all motor skills (strength, speed, flexibility, endurance and coordination).

With national and international championships, World Championships, the Olympics, school tournaments at every level and numerous ranking tournaments, the sport keeps athletes highly dynamic and motivated. I believe that badminton, as an Olympic sport, also offers a variety of future career opportunities.

When I was working as a badminton coach under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, I had a group of primary school children. From the very moment I first introduced them to badminton, their eager attention and enthusiasm made me very happy.

The parents of this group, despite limited resources, would make every effort to bring their children to every training session in a disciplined manner and would tell me how happy they were to see them there. It was very important to me to instil both a sporting ethos and an appreciation for the sport of badminton in people.

It has shown that badminton should be given more prominence in physical education lessons at schools. I believe it has also sparked the interest of those who are unfamiliar with the sport.

Iโ€™ve learnt to give as many people as possible the chance to play badminton. My aim isnโ€™t to find players for the national team, but to create a fun environment where people can learn to play badminton.

During my childhood, I grew up in a disadvantaged neighbourhood where there wasnโ€™t any organised sports. Many of the young people around me started to pick up bad habits like smoking or stealing. One day, while walking around the neighbourhood, I discovered a sports complex. I went inside and I saw people playing. At that moment, I decided not to follow the same path as some of my friends. I chose to channel my energy and my anger into sport.

Sport allowed me to stay focused, disciplined, and to build my life differently. It is also that choice which later allowed me to become one of the best athletes in my discipline.

I discovered badminton in Cรดte d'Ivoire when I was in sixth grade during a PE class at school. One day, we saw a man playing badminton. We were curious, and we went closer to watch. We asked him if we could also play. He then gave us training days. This man was Guy Max Kpatta, and he later became my coach. He was the one who trained and coached me until I became a champion.

What struck me immediately was the speed of the game, the technique, and the precision needed to control the shuttlecock. I found this sport very dynamic and exciting. It made me want to learn more and to improve every day.

Since that first encounter, badminton has become a true passion in my life. This sport has opened up many opportunities for me. Thanks to badminton, I was able to travel, participate in national and international competitions, and meet many people who contributed to my growth.

After my baccalaureate in 2020, I came to Burkina Faso to continue my studies. I kept practising and developing badminton. I also started passing on my knowledge. I helped correct some technical mistakes in players, and I attended Level 1 and Level 2 coach training. Today, I am a coach and coordinator, and I continue to share my passion with young people. Badminton has given me so much in my life that I sometimes struggle to express my emotions to explain everything this sport has given me.

This sport has changed my life. It has given me opportunities, travels, connections, and a career in sport. Now, my mission is to pass on this passion to young people and to contribute to the development of badminton in my country.

Badminton is a very fast sport that requires technique, focus, and strategy. It is also an accessible sport that everyone can practice, regardless of age. It develops coordination, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Iโ€™m the National Shuttle Time Coordinator in Burkina Faso. In this role, I coordinate the programme's activities in the country, and I train teachers so they can teach badminton in schools. I also contribute to the technical development of the players and to promoting badminton in the community. My goal is to help young people discover this sport and to progress.

Shuttle Time has greatly contributed to the development of badminton in my region. Thanks to this programme, many students, teachers, and educational leaders have discovered badminton. Some schools and educational authorities didnโ€™t even know about this sport before.

Even some sports technicians didnโ€™t know that badminton has been an Olympic discipline since the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Today, thanks to Shuttle Time, badminton is increasingly known and practiced in schools.

The greatest lesson I have learned is that sport can transform the lives of young people. With education, passion, and hard work, we can use sport to create opportunities and give children a future. Shuttle Time also taught me the importance of sharing knowledge and working together to develop badminton.
