“Let’s Share the Road” – Tribute Ride for Ken Yeo and Road Safety Awareness Campaign

The Kuching Division Cycling Association will be organising the “Let’s Share the Road” Tribute Ride and Road Safety Awareness Campaign in memory of the late Ken Yeo.

This initiative aims to raise greater awareness on road safety among both cyclists and motorists, while promoting mutual respect and responsible road sharing within the community.

The Association hopes the campaign will serve as a reminder that cyclists are also road users and deserve to travel safely on public roads.

The tribute ride is also held in honour of Ken Yeo’s passion, dedication, and contribution to the local cycling community.

Event Details

📍 Venue: Kuching Waterfront
🕡 Assembly Time: 6:30 a.m.
🚴 Ride Distance: Approximately 5 kilometres
🛣️ Route: Ride will commence and conclude at Kuching Waterfront
⚠️ Safety Briefing: Mandatory briefing for all participants before flag-off

Participants are encouraged to join in solidarity to promote safer roads for everyone and to honour the memory of Ken Yeo.

The Association also calls upon all road users to practise patience, mindfulness, and mutual respect, as every decision made on the road can have lasting consequences.

Together, let us create safer roads and foster a stronger culture of shared responsibility.

Official Statement – Kuching Division Cycling Association

The Kuching Division Cycling Association takes note of the recent developments announced by the Royal Malaysia Police in relation to the fatal road incident involving cyclist Ken Yeo along Jalan Stutong, Kuching on 1 May 2026.

We acknowledge the efforts of the Royal Malaysia Police in carrying out their investigations, including the arrest and subsequent court proceedings involving the accused person.

While the matter is now before the courts and due process must take its course, we hope that these recent developments will provide some measure of closure to the family, friends, teammates, and the wider cycling community who have been deeply affected by this tragic loss.

The passing of a cyclist on our roads is never just another statistic. It is a painful reminder that every rider is someone’s child, sibling, friend, teammate, or loved one.

In tribute to the late Ken Yeo, the Kuching Division Cycling Association will be organising a “Share The Road” awareness campaign aimed at promoting greater understanding between motorists and cyclists, improving awareness of cyclist safety on public roads, and encouraging mutual respect amongst all road users.

We hope this initiative can serve as a meaningful step towards fostering safer roads and preventing similar tragedies from happening again.

As a cycling community, we continue to stand in solidarity with Ken Yeo’s family and loved ones during this difficult period.

📢 Follow-Up: Hit-and-Run Incident in Kuching

We refer to the fatal hit-and-run incident involving a cyclist earlier today.

We are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident, or who have dashcam footage from the area, to come forward and assist in the investigation.

Even a small detail could make a difference.

If you have any information, please contact the police directly Polis Daerah Kuching or reach out to us via this page and we will assist in relaying the information to the relevant authorities.

At the same time, we respectfully urge the authorities to keep the public informed on the progress of the investigation. Transparency matters, not only for accountability, but for the family seeking answers.

This is not about assigning blame prematurely. It is about ensuring that what happened is properly understood, and that those responsible are held accountable.

Let’s not allow this to go unanswered.

Official Statement – Kuching Division Cycling Association

The Kuching Division Cycling Association is deeply saddened by the loss of a cyclist following a hit-and-run incident earlier today in Kuching.

No one sets out on a ride expecting not to make it home. The fact that a life has been lost, and that the driver left the scene, makes this all the more difficult to accept. It goes against both the law and the basic responsibility we owe one another on the road.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Ken Yeo during this very difficult time.

Incidents like this are painful, and they reflect a reality many cyclists quietly live with… that the roads can be unforgiving. That should not be the norm.

Cyclists are not in the way. They are part of the road, be it commuters, athletes, and everyday individuals simply trying to get from one place to another.

We ask motorists to take that extra moment… to slow down, to give space, and to be mindful. Decisions made in seconds can have irreversible consequences.

We also urge the relevant authorities to take firm and swift action in this matter, to strengthen enforcement against dangerous driving, and to continue improving road safety measures and awareness so that tragedies like this do not happen again.

As the local divisional cycling Association, we remain committed to working with all stakeholders to improve safety for everyone on the road. Real progress requires accountability and a shared sense of responsibility.

We will continue to follow developments closely and assist where we can.

Let this not become just another incident we move on from.

For the kids, during XTERRA Saturday afternoon we will be organizing a X-Kids Race (run-bike-run on the beach) at Roxy. It's free participation for kids age 7-12yo to have fun. So sign up at our booth for free at 2pm (max 30pax), bring ur kids and their own gears, let them experience 🫰🏾
