A NAME FROM THE PAST. A LEGACY THAT STILL INSPIRES. 🇲🇾🏸

📜 24 January 1997.

An old Nanyang Sport newspaper cutting — now translated into English — tells the story of a young Malaysian professional who battled his way into the Korean Open Men’s Singles Semi-Finals.

His name?

YONG HOCK KIN.

🇲🇾 Defeating Denmark’s newly crowned Japan Open champion Ramussen.

🇸🇪 Then overcoming Sweden’s Thomas Johansson.

🇰🇷 And continuing his run against Korea’s Kim Jak-Ju.

While Rashid and Ong Ewe Hock bowed out, YONG HOCK KIN stood as the only Malaysian men’s singles player to reach the semi-finals.

But this is more than just an old newspaper story.

It is a reminder that champions are built long before the medals come.

The discipline.
The battles.
The setbacks.
The belief.
The years on court.

Today, that same experience is being passed on to the next generation.

🏸 From a player who once made headlines… to a coach helping young players create their own stories.

🏸🇲🇾 From Training Partners to Final Rivals

Once partners. Now competitors.
But forever teammates in the journey. ❤️💪🏻

This Sunday’s afternoon All Malaysians Final at the Victor Korea Masters 2026 carries a special story😍🤩

🇲🇾 MAN W C & SOH W Y 🆚 TEE K W & YAP R K

What makes this final even more special is the journey behind MAN W C and TEE K W.

Before they became opponents on the biggest stages, Man and Tee were once a formidable doubles pair, growing and training together in Melaka from a young age.

They shared the same academy, the same courts, countless training sessions, sweat, laughter, challenges and dreams.

They once stood side by side as partners.
Today, they stand across the net as competitors.

But the bond and memories built from those early days will always remain. ❤️

From Melaka kids with big dreams to representing Malaysia on an international final stage — what a journey! 🇲🇾🔥

And now, one of them will lift the trophy😊

No matter who wins, this is a proud moment for Melaka and Malaysia. ❤️💛💙
