Gymkhana Club Miri was founded in 1913 by some oil explorers in Miri. GCM is Sports & Recreational Club. In 1915, the club moved to Salome Dam.
Originally, GCM was constructed what is now the Old Red Cresent site and it was then only a handful of recreation clubs in Borneo. in 1917, GCM once again move down to the present GCM site where one story building was erected. In 1926, a swimming pool was constructed by the members themselves.
