On September 16th, Mr. Shinya Machida, Consul-General of Japan in Penang, attended the Penang State Malaysia Day celebration held at Dewan Millenium in Kepala Batas, Penang. The ceremony was attended by Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, Governor of Penang, and his spouse, Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, as well as representatives from the State and Federal Governments, members of the Penang State Legislative Assembly, the diplomatic and consular corps, and various sectors of society.
The ceremony included the raising of the national flag, the singing of the national anthem, the recitation of the Rukun Negara, and cultural performances. Malaysia Day commemorates the formation of Malaysia by Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak on September 16th, 1963.
At the ceremony, the Chief Minister stated that Malaysia was built on the courage to unite, diversity and the spirit of moving forward together. He also noted that Penang recorded RM17.3 billion in approved manufacturing investments in the first half of 2026, and referred to major projects including the Mutiara Line LRT, Silicon Island development and the expansion of Penang International Airport, which are aimed at improving connectivity, creating economic opportunities and laying the foundation for sustainable development for future generations.
