I graduated in Health & Fitness and I got to know about fencing through that discipline, and I enjoyed the learning and training process very much. People often say that fencing is like chess, and it’s true - there is a lot of strategy and critical thinking involved.

I love teaching. Different kids have different ways of learning, and as coaches what we need to learn is how to understand those differences. My brother is autistic, and he’s inspired me to work particularly with special needs kids. Fencing brings so much benefit for them in developing gross and fine motor skills, and it’s one of my dreams to help create more spaces and opportunities for them to take part in this amazing sport! - Syakirah Sofie, Associate Epée Coach

Kiria Tikanah(Singapore), OLY

From a young beginner in the early days of Blade Singapore to a 2 time Olympian - she never lets success get to her head. Kiria remains humble, hardworking, honest and committed to her fencing.

Kiria just concluded 3 days with our fencers in KL as part of the long term development plan for our epeeists. Across all levels, young intermediate fencers to competitive athletes, our fencers gained valuable insights and drew inspiration from your journey in the sport.

Thank you for your time, and thank you Blade Singapore, we hope to see you again!

“I’m from Johor, and I started fencing in 2014. I competed actively at the national level before taking up coaching full time to teach kids all that I’ve learned over the years.

“I started as a kid too. I come for a family that’s very into sports and i attended the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School in Johor. Back then I didn’t even know what fencing was. My brother - a gymnast - introduced me to it, and I thought, whoa, this is fantastic! It’s all about reflexes and the mind and is so gender-inclusive. Whether you’re a boy or girl, it doesn’t matter.

“I love fencing so much, and my dream at Blade Club is to introduce kids to this beautiful world just as I was introduced to it all those years ago!” —Nurul Shamera Balqis, Development Coach - Epée

Discipline - Tenacity - Teamwork

Fencing is a perfect sport for the young. Many parents are finding fencing a great way to help kids develop the skills that are crucial to academic and professional success. It develops mental focus as well as courage, confidence and strength of character balanced by humility and respect.

At Blade Fencing KL, we pride ourselves on excellence in the sport - we are the home to some of Southeast Asia's top fencing coaches - but equally importantly, we are dedicated to the wellbeing and personal development of every one of our students.

Blade Club KL’s newest coach has long been a fencer. Jesaiah Lyshant Rabindranath is a top-ranked epée fencer and SUKMA 2024 double gold medallist (individual and team men’s epée).

Jesaiah has fully recovered from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus injury, which he sustained at the 2024 Malaysia Open not long after his SUKMA wins. “I’m 100% recovered and am keen to get back to actively competing,” he says, “but I’m also looking forward very much to the opportunity to share what I know with everyone at Blade Club KL!”

True to form, just last week Jesaiah finished in the Top 8 at the Moohun PBT Fencing 2026 meet in Bangkok held over 27 Feb - 1 Mar,

Congratulations, Jesaiah, and welcome to the coaching team!
