KL Barbarians Formed in July 2011, the KL Barbarians is the first open corporate dragon boat team in the Klang Val

The KL Barbarians is a team that is open to everyone and anyone who has a passion for dragon boating, and is supported solely through its own members and corporate sponsorships. The team was formed by a group of individuals who got together in August 2011 to learn the sport and raced their first dragon boat race barely 10 weeks after. The KL Barbarians has now developed into a unique and motley crew of enthusiastic and energetic members from a range of varying professions eager to prove themselves on the water.

Home from Hualien 🇲🇾🐉

The KL Barbarians are back from the 15th IDBF Club Crew World Championships 2026 after an unforgettable journey and 8 months on the .

From the first sessions of our campaign to the final races at Liyu Lake, this journey demanded commitment, sacrifice and trust. Our paddlers and supporters gave their time and energy to the process, and we are proud that we went ALL IN with the time we had to prepare.

Competing on the world stage was also a reminder of the level that exists beyond our shores. We saw the speed, power, discipline and precision of some of the best club crews in the world. We return with plenty to reflect on, plenty to learn and even more motivation to improve.

Our sincere thanks to the Malaysian Dragon Boat Federation - MDBF for the opportunity and support to compete at this year’s CCWC. We are honoured to have represented Malaysia on the international stage 🇲🇾

Thank you also to everyone who supported our CCWC journey - our families, friends, sponsors, supporters and the wider dragon boat community. And most importantly, thank you to every Barbarian who committed to the journey.

The championships may now be over, but the journey doesn’t end here.

What matters now is what we choose to take away from Hualien.

Do we accept that this is all we can be?

Or, having seen the level of competition across the globe, do we take what we have learned, put in the work and raise our game?

The answer is clear :

The work continues.

8 weeks ago after the Malacca race, our women’s crew discussed the need to work harder and one teammate said we should strive to be the top of the bottom half at CCWC.

Objective achieved ✅ as our ladies finished 11th (out of 20 teams) in the Premier Women Small Boat 200m category, once more as the top Southeast Asian club!
