The formation of Bush Bucks
It was back in 1983 when a decision was taken by Mr Patrick Challo Vuyalo and Mr Harushando Alexander to form a team comprising of Mayeyi soccer players to play on a regional level. It first took part in a tournament that was held at Simataa Senior Secondary School, and after winning the silver medals a decision was taken to register the team with the Caprivi soccer league. He said he was a muyeyi himself, but will not register the team in its current form because the team’s name has a tribal connotation. Mr Dominic Batubaja and Mr Calvin Elijah who were then playing for Red Warriors football club were so happy with the news, together with Mr Patrick Vuyalo took a BONA Magazine and choose the name BUSH BUCKS. Mr Dominic Batubaja bought the team’s first jersey, a long sleeve blue uniform and also contributed a 10 rand towards the writing of the teams first constitution others who also contributed 10 each were Mr Lister Makumba and Mr Geofrey Lushetile. Mr James Sankwasa was paid 30 rand for drafting this constitution with the team’s colours being black and white. These are some of the first crop of players: Hoster Lifalaza, Kennedy Samulandela, Lemmy Muhapili, Lasken Lilata, Geofrey Lushetile, Morven Luswenyo, Cedric Simalumba, Kennedy Munyandi, Lister Makumba and others. Later Calvin Elijah, Bollen Simbuwa, and Dominic Batubaja joined the team from Red Warriors. Thus Bush Bucks was formed to represent the mayeyi community.
