Kayaking amongst thousands of Cape fur seals.

When in Walvis Bay, how could you choose to see Seals and Flamingos any other way than from a Kayak. A flamboyance of Greater Flamingos taking advantage of the nutrient rich sand banks at Pelican Point. Even the young seal pup is admiring them. So many sunny mornings in September :)

Young seal pups born in November 2023 are nearing the weaning age now. Soon these pups will learn to catch their own fish and mom will stop giving them milk as she prepares to give birth to her next pup in November. That’s a year of fun and games and milk when they want it.

Seals just love having fun!

Breeding season has arrived for the Cape fur seals, mothers have started to give birth to the cutest little bundles of fur seal pups. For the first week mom and pup needs to build a strong relationship to recognize each others smell and sound amongst tens of thousands of seals so that when mom goes fishing she can find Phillip when she returns. For the first 7 weeks seal pups spend their time on land thereafter it takes them another 7 weeks to learn how to swim. Difficult to believe when you see what amazing swimmers they are after a few months. It’s an indescribable feeling being in their natural environment and watching them interact undisturbed by anything. #2023
