LUDERITZ PENINSULA
hiked in the hauntingly beautiful and historical Lüderitz peninsula, where early European explorers sometimes made call including the first known European to have touched down on our shores Bartolomeu Dias. Our hike starting from near where he is believed to have erected a commemorative cross and meandering along the craggy coast up to Grossebuchte. The terrain consists of desert and rocky coastline. From GrosseBucht to Dias Cross– 11.30km straight – 15-17 km along the coastline.

These Saturday we Hiked The Von Bach Dam (originally the Sartorius von Bach Dam) a rock-fill embankment dam on the and Swakop River near Okahandja in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia.

Our destination was part of the Namib Naukluft Park, a park that captures the diversity of Namibia’s landscape, including the Namibia desert, the Naukluft Mountain range and the Khomas savanna scape. To make it to our hiking destination and back we will have to go through the gamsberg Pass and quab pass to observe the descent from the Great Escarpment. As we had arrived at Sesriem and settling in, we will hike down the Sesriem canyon formed by the Tsauchab river just on the edge of the sea of dunes forming the core of the Namib desert, before going on a sundowner hike of Dune 1. Our hiking targets for the second day are Dune 45, Big Daddy & Big Mamma dunes, and will include a walkabout Sossusvlei and Deadvlei.

Recon at Sandwich Harbour went well.

Sandwich Harbour - part of the Namib Naukluft Park - is a place many have heard of but very few have ever visited. Giant sand dunes run straight into the ocean, creating breathtaking sceneries and unique landscapes.

NOA covered the olives trail and waterkluft trail averaging 12km and 24Km over our stay of desert ravines, plains and the Naukluft mountains.
