A little update on Paul, because this weekend marked the start of a whole new chapter in his motocross journey.
Itโs been a long year. Injuries, being sick at two races, knocking himself out at another, and five weeks off the bike just before MXoAN. But there were some pretty special moments too.
Paul finished Top 10 out of 33 MX65 riders at MXoAN, Namibiaโs 65cc team finished 2nd, and Team Namibia finished 2nd overall.
After MXoAN, we sold the 65cc, made the decision to sit out the rest of the Nationals and started preparing for what comes next. And this weekend, it came.
Paulโs first race in the 85cc class. A bigger bike, a new challenge and a little more independence. For the first time, there was no Dad standing trackside ready to help if he went down, something Heat 1 made sure he discovered pretty quickly. He fell, struggled to get the much bigger 85 back up and started, but eventually did it himself and carried on. And at the end of his first ever race in the 85cc class, Paul finished 5th overall.
A big thank you to Mark Sternagel for his time, guidance and for pushing Paul to be a better rider. We appreciate it, Mark.
To Dad, for the countless hours behind the scenes, at the track and everywhere in between, none of this happens without you.
And to Team Yamaha Windhoek, thank you for backing Paul and being part of his motocross journey.
After a year with more than its fair share of setbacks, this felt like a pretty good way to start something new.
New bike. New class. New challenges. And plenty still to learn.
The 85cc chapter has officially begun. ๐
