Tuta absoluta β€” A major seasonal threat to Namibian tomato farmers.

Sacrificial plants attract and concentrate the pest, sparing the main crop from direct damage.

KEY ADVANTAGES

1. Pest diversion - Diverts Tuta absoluta away from tomatoes, reducing direct crop damage.

2. Targeted monitoring - Concentrated pest zone makes monitoring and control far more efficient.

3. Reduced pesticide use - Fewer chemicals needed, making farming more eco-friendly and cost-effective.

4. Synergy with light traps - Works with solar-powered light traps for a fully sustainable IPM system.

Did you know?
Most Namibian tomato growers overlook the Bio-Decoy Trap Garden as a low-cost,chemical-reducing solution to one of their biggest seasonal threats. By intentionally planting Nicotiana species or other lure crops on the field perimeter, farmers create a sacrificial buffer zone β€” drawing Tuta absoluta away from the main crop and into a controlled space where targeted intervention is far easier.

Join us in celebrating the birthday of our founder, Shirley Mambadzo.

Photos from Eden Greenfields's post 10/10/2025

Eden Greenfields recently partnered with the Namibian Agronomic Board to host a 2-day Indoor Crop Cultivation Training, led by our trainer Charles Mambadzo. The session focused on greenhouse design, pest management, and best practices for climate-smart crop production.

We were also joined by Ché K. Hatzkin, a student from DHPS, who completed her job shadowing with us and took part in the training. ✨

β€œI learned so much about greenhouses, pests and diseases, and when plants are ready to harvest, and even earned a certificate!”

At Eden Greenfields, we believe in knowledge sharing, hands-on learning, and growing the next generation of food producers.
