Grooming a horse is a powerful tool when we shift the aim from 'just getting the horse clean' to a mindful and present exercise.
With facilitated guidance a young person will become aware of their energy, pace and pressure. By understanding the horses body language as a form of communication, a young person becomes aware of how they are in the moment. They become aware of the type of grip on the brush, focus on the length of stroke of the brush over the horse's body, the pressure exerted onto the horse, their body language and their breathing.
Something simple such as brushing can provide young people an insight of how they handle daily tasks, becoming aware of what their body is communicating to them and how they can regulate themselves.
