1. Your rifle and your ammo are more
important than your life. Better be dead
than lose them.
2. You can never be the winner in any
argument with your superior. Even when
you have won.
3. Every commandants/ commanders needs your advice
but not in public.
4. If there is a competition, don't come
first, and don't come last.
5. Your soldiers/patriots are the backbone of your
work. Treat them well.
6. If you offend a higher authority, carry
your cross.
7. If your soldier/patriot offends a higher
authority,he'll carry his cross.
8. Remember that the smartest and most
intelligent officers often do not get to the
top. Only the most loyal ones do.
9. Don't be deceived. Many commandants & commanders
do not like eye service.
10. Never "contest" a woman with your
superior. It is the Copy die and many
have gone that way.
11. The wife of your superior is either a
goldmine or a landmine. If you are not
sure of who she is, avoid her.
12. Be brave. Even if you are a coward.
13. If your superior admires your
girlfriend, surrender her. If he admires
your wife, stand by her. A girlfriend is an
accolade. An accolade can be lost without
dire consequences. Your wife is your
crown. You are nothing without her.
14. Don't ever beg for mercy. It is the
foremost manifestation of weakness and
the military environment has no respect
for weaklings.
15. Don't ever solicit for "welfare". If you
are "issued", be very thankful.
16. Don't look for your seniors. Let them
look for you. If they look for you, don't
keep them waiting.
17. If you don't like a colleague, let him
know you don't like him. If he takes
steps to warm up to you, don't embrace
him. Accommodate him.
18. A lie is an abomination - and a critical
part of initiative.
19. If you are lucky to have stumbled on
"mega" money, maintain your old
lifestyle. If you can't maintain your old
lifestyle, maintain a low profile.
Camouflage and concealment are not only
for the warfront. "Shine" is one reason
things are seen.
20. Remember that drinking, smoking and
womanizing are prominent features of the
job yet, no medals are allocated for them.
21. Don't look too smart before your
superiors. Instead, look stupid before
them. People are generally comfortable
with stupid people whom they can easily
control.
22. Wait for your time.
23. Know that the enemy's degree of
training is dependent on yours. If he is
well trained, then, you are poorly trained.
If he is poorly trained, you are well
trained.
24. You are a soldier. Not a priest.
25. If you are tired of the job, resign.
26. Never reject a gift from a superior
except in protest of a salient point. It is the greatest indirect show of disloyalty.

FUNCTIONS OF MAN O’ WAR NIGERIA
•Rescue and disaster management
Participation in the enhancement of food security.
•Embarking in youth sensitization activities
•Enhancing value re-orientation and sensitization of citizens through the promotion of social welfare, culture and economic well being.
•Regular liaison with governmental bodies, authorities, professional associations and body cooperate to monitor government projects and programmes.
•Compliment efforts of law enforcement agencies of government in traffic management, security of life and property, environment protection, general safety & crowd control.
•Training of youth corpers at orientation camps, Students in schools and out of School youths.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
INVESTITURE/PARADE
•This should take place not more than once a year in any particular command.
•It shall be an occasion where new member(s) are inducted and graduating members sent off (whichever is applicable).
•In case of new member(s) it shall be an occasion for affirming the membership promise.
•It shall also be an occasion whereby Patron(s). Matron(s) and Adviser(s) shall pledge the oath of service on assumption of office.

CAMPING AND TRAINING:
•Camping and Training shall be carried out only on the notification of the Centre with the approval of the National/State commands.
•All rules and regulations concerning camping and training (as contained in the Command Handbook) shall be strictly adhered to.
•Camping and Training exercise shall be within the State/zonal command except it is a Centre’s sponsored programme.
•Command shall determine the time, place and frequency of their training within the Command.
•Physical Activities, Rope obstacle course, swimming, rock climbing, circuit training, tug of war, jogging, assault course, physical exercise, cross country, road work, marshal arts, sports and games, expeditions, endurance trek, orienteering and swimming where possible.
•Mental Activities, Symposia, discussions, debates, lectures, quiz, impromptu speeches and know your neighbour etc.
•Technical Activities, First aid, life saving, mapping compass work, fire fighting and rope knotting.
•Vocational Activities, Agriculture, piggery, fishery, horticulture. All forms of animal husbandry and Gardening, typing and dying painting, drawing, soap and cream making, Sewing and knitting, cookery, carpentry, broom making, camp crafting etc.
•Social Engagements
a.Commands shall assist in Traffic Control, crowd control, environmental sanitation, visiting hospitals, motherless babies’ homes and orphanages, remand homes, old people homes, prison yards and organized adult education classes.
b.They may attend marriage, funeral service, house warming, naming ceremony and other social functions on invitation.
c.Once out of their own jurisdiction, commands are to make their presence known to the host command for necessary cooperation as a matter of simple courtesy.
•Cultural Activities, Singing and dancing, drama, poetry, story telling etc. Members may attend State and other functions.
•If the need arises, engage in other activities as may be decided by the executive committee conversant with the aim and objective of Man O’ War Nigeria.

Its no longer news that MAN O'WAR Obafemi Awolowo University Unit had planned to embark on a visit to the Hilltop Training School at Agwu, Enugu State on the 21st of September 2017.
But the Hilltop Training School Unit Coordinator called yesterday to cancel all arrangements due to the claim that they have a few things to settle on their end.

CITIZENSHIP AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING CENTRE
INTRODUCTION
• The Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre is a Parastatal in the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.
• It is principally a human development outfit established for the training and moulding of Nigeria citizenry to become responsible and respectable citizens and leaders.
• The Centre is by all indication the only informal educational institution in Nigeria that executes experiential and Outward Bound education. It provides citizenship and leadership training in an atmosphere in which self-discovery and self-actualization are evidently based on one’s competence and ability, irrespective of one’s origin, belief or class.
• The Centre has unwaveringly provided practical training that has positively reshaped the character and orientation of many Nigerians who have passed through her in any form.
• It is also the parent body of Man O’ War Commands which exist in all States of the Federation including the FCT and Railways.
ESTABLISHMENT
• Established in 1951 and given a legal status by an Act of Parliament published in the extraordinary Gazette No. 45 of August 10, 1960. The Act has been modified by Decree No. 38 of December, 1989 which is currently undergoing Amendment at the National Assembly.
MANDATE
• To provide training for the development of citizenship and leadership for public benefit
• To establish Man O’ War Clubs and Commands and formulate policy guidelines for running the Clubs and Commands.
• To encourage and provide for research at the Centre

CENTRE’S CORE VALUES
The Centre as an informal educational institution uses the challenges found in the environment to confront participants for the purpose of developing the core values of courage, trust, integrity, and compassion for others. CENTRE’S COURSES
The Centre’s Courses are aimed at developing individual’s cooperation, initiative, communication skills, human control, management and a renewed sense of self-worth. Essentially adventure based, the Centre’s programmes use the challenges found in the natural environment of the location of the Training Schools to create fundamental noticeable behavioral changes in the participants.

CENTRE’S TRAINING ACTIVITIES
The type of training provided is a practical and experiential form of learning which is aimed at producing complete individuals who can make constructive use of his hand head and heart. It helps Nigerians who have benefited from the practical training methods to discover and develop their potentials to care for themselves, others and the community around them through challenging experiences in unfamiliar settings. Activities designed to achieve the above stated goals are divided thus:

• To create opportunities for character development and positive attitudinal change.

• The Centre has also produced skilled, self-reliant and creative citizens which have helped in the reduction of social vices in the country.
• The Centre has engendered the production of entrepreneurial youth capable of impacting positively on their environment while being globally competitive.
• It had equally instilled in Nigerians those values which we hold sacrosanct and which today remain the memories of our greatness, the culture of decorum, honesty and patriotism which are the bedrock of leadership and citizenship
• The training has uplifted the living standards of individuals by equipping them with requisite knowledge, skills, values and attitudes which are crucial for civic order and citizenship, sustainable economic growth, poverty reduction, etc.
• Production of both Military and Para-Military personnel who are disciplined, efficient and prudent in management
• The Centre’s training programmes are geared towards strengthening our democratic institutions and confronting the challenges facing our country with great determination and firmness.
MAN O’ WAR NIGERIA
• The establishment of Man O’ War Organizations is the second mandate of the Centre.
• It is a voluntary Youth Organization under the Centre’s supervision and control as empowered by Section 7b of the Decree that established the Centre with the philosophy of Community Development anchored on voluntarism.
• They are a viable and potent force in the promotion of ideals of the Centre and the mobilization of youth at the grass root level.
• It is an existing platform for youth development and a community of youths who are amenable to discipline, available for training and looking for useful engagement.
• It has formations in all States of the Federation including FCT Abuja called Man O’ War State Command and National Command as well as Man O’ War Clubs in Secondary Schools and Higher Institutions of Learning.
• Presently, there are more than 1,500 Clubs in Secondary Schools and Tertiary Institutions, 38 Commands (including 36 State Commands, FCT Command and Railway Command) and the National Command based in Abuja.
• The focus of this organization among other things is the positive direction of human resources towards rendering selfless community services and the promotion of good institutional tone.

LEGISLATIVE ISSUES
• Amendment of the Centre’s Act: There is ongoing effort by the House of Representative to amend Decree No. 38 of December 1989 that established the Centre. A public Hearing in which the Centre participated was held on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. The need to amend the Decree was informed by the imperatives of repositioning the Centre to make it more efficient, effective and relevant to the modern day trends and needs of the Nigerian Nation.
INTERNATIONAL OBLIGATIONS
• The Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre is an affiliate member of the Outward Bound Organization World-wide which exists in over fifty countries of the world with Headquarters in United Kingdom.
• The Centre promotes and fosters the development of United World College (UWC). It is privy to the formation of Nigeria National Committee for United World College, a body committed to using education to foster international understanding, peace and unity.

WORK PLAN
• The Centre intend to upgrade the existing Training Schools in terms of quality and standard training facilities, structures and gadgets and embark on massive manpower capacity building through the training and re-training of staff for better performance.
• The Centre intend to execute a lot of capital projects such as construction and equipping of students libraries in all our Training Schools, construction of Executives hostels in all our Training Schools and rehabilitation/renovation of existing hostels, construction of 500 seater capacity lecture theatre in all the Training Schools, purchases of utility vehicles for all the Training Schools and Head Office, purchases for water boats and official vehicle for the Chief Executive among others.
• The Centre desires to build or secure its own Permanent Office Accommodation that will be more befitting, better located, more spacious and corporate, with standard and modern office facilities, equipments and gadgets.
• Re-organization of Man O’ War to be kept on course to conform to the Federal Government Reform Policy and the Centre’s vision and mission as well as completion of the Training and posting of the liaison officers to states.
• Continual training for NYSC corps members during orientation programmes on leadership and good citizenship qualities.
• An arrangement is to be made with the Federal Ministry of Education that will allow the Centre to continue to give moral talks to students in primary and secondary schools starting with the schools in Abuja and its environs.
• The Centre wish to create a ‘Nigeria Dream Pattern’ that will encourage and develop in Nigerians principles of citizenship and leadership through character development, acquisition of leadership techniques for effective management of man and resources, encouraging the development of interest in creative leisure pursuit, community and social service while inculcating in them moral discipline and the spirit of nationalism, patriotism and national unity.
• Specifically, in 2016 the Centre intends to train 15 thousand Nigerians on citizenship and leadership, capacity building, value reorientation, character development among others to address the issues of youth unemployment, loss of cultural and moral values and the dearth of entrepreneurship skills among the youth.
• Also in 2016 the Centre intends to run 201 training courses in all the Training Schools located in the six geo-political zones.
CONCLUSION
• The Centre is not only an important part of our nation’s history, but a pivot of our past, present and future which has been contributing tremendously to the strategic manpower development of Nigeria over the years and still stands to make more valuable contributions to national development. With improved infrastructures, the Centre will even do more. Similarly, the Centre has worked in collaboration with other Government and Non-governmental Agencies in the area of Youth Development and still hope to do more.
• The Centre has also develop in Nigerians principles of citizenship and leadership through character development, acquisition of leadership techniques for effective management of man and resources, encouraging the development of interest in creative leisure pursuit, community and social service while inculcating in them moral discipline and the spirit of nationalism, patriotism and national unity.
• Since inception, the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre has successfully trained many participants most of whom are past Head of States, past Military Governors and Administrators, past and present Civilian Governors and their Deputies, Inspector General of Police, Ministers and Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Director Generals, etc.
• Though the Centre still have more areas to cover and more grounds to explore, if the awareness and impact created in our past and present participants and the entire citizenry is anything to go by, then it can be said that the Centre has succeeded inhu
