Press Release | NUGA Updates
This week, we spotlight Kolawole Esther Anuoluwapo, the 2025/2026 FISU Student Ambassador representing Nigeria at the University of Ilorin, whose journey continues to demonstrate the growing impact of Nigerian students within the global university sports movement.
Esther has been accepted into the prestigious FISU Springboard Programme, a highly competitive international initiative designed to connect emerging sport leaders with experienced professionals across the global university sports ecosystem.
Her selection follows a series of impactful contributions within the University of Ilorin community, including the establishment of the UniIlorin Sport Medical Team, recognised as the first student-led sport medicine team in a Nigerian university.
Through her leadership, students have gained valuable hands-on experience in athlete welfare and sports operations, while preparations continue for a Sport Careers Seminar expected to engage thousands of students on opportunities within the sports industry.
As part of the programme, Esther will be mentored by Melissa Hartzell, Development Director for the 2029 FISU Summer World University Games in North Carolina, USA, gaining exposure to international best practices in sport development, event management, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement.
This achievement reflects the opportunities that emerge when students combine leadership, service, and a passion for sports development.
π Congratulations on this global recognition.
This is what the NUGA community represents: students creating impact, building networks, and shaping the future of university sports beyond the field of play.
π Celebrate her. Tag her. Show some love.

Menstrual Hygiene Day | Health & Awareness β€οΈ
Where dignity, health, awareness, and support create safer and more inclusive communities.
Observed every year on May 28, Menstrual Hygiene Day raises awareness about the importance of menstrual health, hygiene education, and access to proper sanitary care for girls and women around the world.
Menstruation is a natural part of life, yet many still face stigma, misinformation, and limited access to hygiene support.
Did you know? π
π©Έ Good menstrual hygiene helps prevent infections and supports overall health and well-being.
π Access to menstrual products and education helps students stay confident, active, and engaged in school activities.
ποΈ For female student-athletes, proper hygiene, hydration, nutrition, and body care are important for comfort, performance, and confidence during training and competition.
π€ Supportive environments help break stigma and encourage open, healthy conversations around menstrual health.

Every girl deserves support.
Every student deserves awareness.
Every conversation helps break stigma.

Word of the Day | Community & Conversation
Every movement carries intention. Todayβs word takes us into the foundation of basketball performance.
At NUGA, Word of the Day is where language, sport, and learning meet, inviting our community to explore the meanings behind the words we hear every day on the field, court, track, and beyond the classroom.
Todayβs word is FOOTWORK.
In basketball, footwork is more than movement. It is balance, coordination, timing, and control under pressure.
Long before modern basketball existed, movement determined survival. Warriors, hunters, and fighters relied on quick reactions, balance, and positioning to gain advantage.
When basketball evolved, the principle remained the same:
your feet often determine how effective your game becomes.
For athletes, footwork shows up every day.
In basketball π, footwork creates better defense, balance, and shot control.
In football β½, footwork improves agility, movement, and quick direction changes.
In athletics π, footwork affects speed, coordination, and explosive movement.
And beyond sports, it matters too.
In life π, footwork is preparation.
It is learning the basics before chasing the spotlight.
It is mastering discipline before expecting results.
Same principle. Different battlefield.
Today, footwork means:
π£ Building strong foundations
π£ Moving with control and confidence
π£ Reacting quickly under pressure
π£ Staying balanced in difficult moments
π£ Mastering the basics consistently
Because before the highlightsβ¦
before the crossoversβ¦
before the big momentsβ¦
Comes footwork.
Read. Reflect. Join the conversation.
