Budapest 2023 World Athletics: Imaobong Uko makes Championship list

Nigeria's national 400m champion, Imaobong Nse Uko has made the list of athletes released by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria - AFN for the 2023 World Championship in Budapest, Hungary holding from 19 to 27 of August.
Imaobong will participate in the Women's 400m and 4x400m events at the world championship.
The 19 year old outclassed her peers to claim her first 400m national title at the Nigerian Championships in Benin, Edo State last month, winning the women’s final A with 52.07s, well ahead of Omolara Omotosho who placed 2nd in 52.87s and Queen Usunobun who came 3rd in 53.16s.
She also qualified for the women’s 4x400m event alongside Omolara Omotosho, Patience Okon-George, Ella Onojuvwevwo during the Lagos Athletics Club Series running a season’s best of 32:27:61s to move up to 14th and punch their ticket to the World Championships.
According to a release from the athletic body, notable Nigerian male athletes like Itshekiri Usheoritshe, Ashe Favour, Seye Ogunlewe, Alaba Akintola, Fakorede Adekalu, Karlington Anunagba, and Enekwechi Chukwuebuka were listed.
For the females, Ese Brume, George Patience Okon, Sucess Umukoro, Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma, Ruth Usoro Deborah Oke and Pamela Amaechi made the cut.

Imaobong Nse Uko qualified for the women's 400m final at the Big 12 Championships in Norman, clocking a time of 52.20s behind her teammate Mariah Ayers who won the heat in 52.11s.
Mercy Umoibang ran 54.96s in the same heat.

Imaobong Nse-Uko, ran her second fastest time over the one lap this season, clocking 51.89s at the LSU Invitational to finish 4th in heat 1 of women's 400m. The race was won by Shamier Little who ran an SB of 50.61s.
Nse-Uko returned to compete in the women's 200m event, dropping a fast 23.22s (+1.3) to win heat 3. It is her 3rd fastest 200m, all recorded this season, running 23.10s & 23.21s last month. She has been improving.

Imaobong Nse Uko powered to a Season's Best (SB) of 51.66s to win her 400m heat at the Michael Johnson Invitational!
She totally dominated the race, finishing ahead of Jamaica's Shiann Salmon who ran 52.04s and Sanaria Butler in 52.19s.

Sophomore, Nse Imaobong continued from where she stopped in the indoor season where she ran an African U20 Record of 52.19s to finish 3rd at the Big 12 Championships.
She opened her 400m at the Tom Jones’s invitational today where she clocked 52.10s and lowered her 200m PB yesterday with 23.10s. She had previously clocked 23.21s at the Texas Relays.
was a part of the Nigerian squad who made the final in the Mixed 4x400m last year at the World Championships. Good luck as the seaosn progresses champ!

Good progress- Nigeria's Imaobong Uko raced to a new Personal Best in women's 200m, improving by more than one-tenth from previous PB. Uko clocked 23.10s (+0.7) to finish 3rd in heat 3 of women's 200m (College) at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. This is her 2nd PB this season in two 200m races so far.

Nse Imaobong opened her outdoor season with a bang, clocking 23.21s at the Clyde Hart Classic held at her school, she lowered her previous PB of 23.33s.
Her performance has earned her our Female Athlete of the Week (Track). Congrats champ

Imaobong Nse Uko opened up her 2023 campaign at the TTU Corky Classic in Texas, running 53.51s to win the women's 400m.
She ran the fastest time across 6 heats, finishing ahead of Nayanna Dubarry-Gay in 54.63s and Lacarthea Cooper in 54.91s.
