DELTA 2022 FESTIVAL UPDATE:

• New cycling kid on the block, Godwin dreams big after bronze medal effort
..My goal is to do better, win more laurels for the state and country
..Praised by Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa for this stellar performance
..We shall monitored and groomed her to stardom - Edo State Sports Commission
By Patrick Omorodion and Maxwell Kumoye in Asaba

As the popular saying goes, big dreams backed with determination and hard work coupled with the right training as well as good mentorship, is an excellent recipe for success.

This aptly describe ad captures the story of a teenager who been tipped to be the next big name in the spectacle on two wheels, Osaretin Godwin.

The sensational ride of the cycling prodigy, Osaretin Godwin of Edo State can not be complete without the support of coach Angela Okoro and the Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), who provided the much needed support, encouragement and the platform to thrive for her.

Osaretin Godwin initial goal was to participation in the forthcoming National Youth Games and not to rob shoulders with elite athletes in the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta state.

However, as a result of the fact that Edo State cycling contingent has been heavily depleted following the exodus suffered after the festival Edo state hosted last year, Edo female coach Angela Okoro decided to turn to 15-year old Miss Godwin to party to Delta 2022 festival.

With eyes of faith, Osaretin Godwin grabbed the golden opportunity with both legs and hands, she stunned notable cyclists to emerge third in the women's 200m sprints behind Ese Ukpeseraye of Delta state and Joke Durogbade of Oyo state.

Shortly after she was decorated with her bronze medal on Sunday, Godwin said she was elated that she could win a National Sports Festival medal and gave God the glory.

"I want to thank God that I won a medal at this festival and I am very happy," she said.

She added that, "it is my prayer to keep doing well until I achieve greater laurels in cycling."

Executive Director of Edo State sports commission, Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa hugged little Miss Godwin for her feat and promised that she will be monitored and groomed to become a national champion.

Meanwhile in the 80km road race for women decided Sunday, Team Delta's Ese Ukpeseraye won the gold while Tawakalt Yekeen and Joke Durogbade, both of Oyo state picked the silver and bronze medals respectively.
