My people, na 8pm, as I dey return home, my landlord call me say, “OgaDocument, abeg find somewhere sleep tonight. My boys sit down for your front door, and dem dey wait for their suya.”

I immediately call my wife make she carry the children go her sister’s house. As the man of the house, I tell myself say I must face my responsibility.

My people, wetin really dey happen for market with tomatoes and onions.

Onions don cost, tomatoes no gree cheap, and ordinary market shopping don turn serious financial calculation.

My people, me and Park Chairman went to meet his friend, Alhaji Danjuma, to negotiate suya for his housewarming party.

I gave Alhaji Danjuma a quotation of ₦1,000,000, including ram, workmanship and other logistics. Before I could blink, he transferred ₦700,000 into my account.

But as we dey return to XYZ Motor Park, Chairman reminded me of his 40% commission.

I looked at him and said, “Chairman, abeg, I fit give you 10%, take am or leave am. I don decide to leave this park and start afresh.”

My people, I go buy Ram, buy the charcoal, face the smoke, and na Chairman wan chop almost half the profit?

Monkey no go dey work while baboon dey chop.

But my people, do you think Chairman will accept 10%, or this matter go turn another serious wahala?

My people, these scavengers no be ordinary people when e reach price negotiation.

Imagine this man opening his two eyes, looking at my full bag of plastic water bottles, and saying with confidence, “Oga, I go give you one hundred (₦100) naira.”

I looked at him from head to toe and asked, “Oga, you dey negotiate price or you dey try frustrate my efforts? Even the nylon wey I use carry these bottles get value pass this your offer.”

I told him, “Bring ₦3,000, make we settle this matter like responsible citizens.”

My people, this man looked at me as if I had asked him to buy the whole of my street. He just said he wasn’t interested.

I carried my bag and started walking away sharp-sharp. Abeg, better make I carry these bottles go house than allow somebody use ₦100 purchase my effort.

Na wa o! Make I go give my neighbour him dirty back; I be think sey I wan cash out na make me collect am from am.
Only for another person to price all the bottles like leftover jollof rice.

OgaDocument THE SUYA SELLER: ONE SECRET TOO MANY.

My people, I abandoned my rent refund wahala and rushed to XYZ Motor Park to sell suya to raise money for another house.

As I was busy roasting meat under the hot sun, the Park Chairman approached me.

“OgaDocument, my friend is having a housewarming party. I have recommended you to prepare suya for the event.”

My people, happiness nearly made me drop my knife. I quickly calculated the money in my head. I don see hope of renting a new house.

But suddenly, Chairman moved closer and whispered, “OgaDocument, my commission is 40% of whatever my friend pays you.”

CHAI! 40% COMMISSION FOR WETIN?
Na me go buy the meat, pepper, onions, and charcoal. Na me go stand under the hot sun and turn the suya, but Chairman wey no even touch one stick of meat wants to collect almost half of my money.

My people, I left landlord wahala only to enter commission wahala. For this Nigeria, even when person wants to help you, you better ask, “Oga, how much be your own?”

Abeg, my people, make una advise me: should I accept the job and pay Chairman his 40%, or carry my suya grill go another motor park?
