Chelsea Football Club fans gather here, let's quickly talk about Chelsea ππ€
Clearlake Capital is taking full control of Chelsea FC. Clearlake was already the majority owner, holding 61.5% before this deal.
Todd Boehly and Mark Walter are selling their stakes to Clearlake. Their combined interests were roughly a quarter of the club.
Todd Boehly is stepping down as Chelsea chairman.
HansjΓΆrg Wyss is staying as an important stakeholder and partner in the ownership group.
The reported value of the transaction is around Β£950 million ($1.27bn), although that figure comes from reporting rather than Chelsea's official announcement.
Clearlake has said it intends to continue investing in Chelsea's infrastructure, sporting performance and player development.
Most importantly for fans: Chelsea says there will be no changes to the club's day-to-day operations, leadership or strategy because of this transition.
π How did we get here?
Clearlake, Boehly, Walter and Wyss originally joined together to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in 2022. Clearlake became the majority shareholder, while the other investors held the remaining shares.
Now Clearlake is buying out Boehly and Walter, meaning the ownership structure is changing from a shared ownership arrangement to Clearlake having full control.
