Nasarawa United produced a late surge to defeat neighbours and bitter rivals, Plateau United 2-1 in a tense 2026 President Federation's Cup Quarter-Final clash at the Bwari Sports Complex, Abuja, on Thursday evening, securing a place in the last four of Nigeria's oldest knockout inter-club competition, after a goal from super substitute, Ada Umar, with seven minutes of regulation time left.
In a game that witnessed a large turn of Nasarawa United's supporters and fans, including Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Nasarawa State, Barr. Isaac Danladi, alongside Management, Staff of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Aide to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Sports Affairs, Comrade Hamza Moyi Ibrahim, Board Members of Nasarawa State Football Association led by the Chairman, Salisu Usman Galadima, it was the 2021 Federation's Cup second-place finishers, Nasarawa United, who controlled the first-half and took the lead through wing back, Abubakar Abdullahi, who lifted highest to nod home John Victor's deep throw in in the 44th minute.
The Solid Miners looked set to see out the result until the Peace Boys found an equalizer in the 85th minute. Aboh Daniel struck home a through pass into the box to level the tie, forcing the game into a nervy final stretch.
United restored the lead courtesy of super substitute, Umar Ada who picked up the ball from a defensive error inside the rival's half, beat an onrushing defender, and slotted a composed finish past the goalkeeper , Amah John, in the 83rd minute, his second goal in two straight games, after his goal against Rivers United in the Round of 16 clash in Awka, Anambra State, six days ago.
The two-time Federation's Cup Runners-up held the 2-1 leas firm through stoppage time, sending them into this year's Semi-Finals scheduled for next week, where they will face Ikorodu City FC who defeated Barau FC 5-4 via penalty shootouts after regulation time ended 2-2 apiece in the other Quarter Finals berth in Awka, on
