SPORTS COMMISSIONER HAIL NASARAWA AMAZONS, ANNOUNCES CASH REWARDS FOR PRE SEASON SUCCESS.
Nasarawa Amazons Football Club received a heroic welcome on Wednesday as the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jibril Abdullahi Ibrahim FCNA, hosted and rewarded the victorious pre-season champions with the sum of One Million Naira at the Ministry's Conference Hall in Lafia.
Fresh from defending their crown at the Governor Douye Diri Women's Pre-Season Tournament in Yenagoa, where they proudly stood as the sole representatives from Northern Nigeria, Amazons were showered with praises for sustaining their football dominance. To recap a stellar outing, the pride of Nasarawa State edged hosts Bayelsa Queens 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in the semi-finals before defeating Delta Queens 1-0 in the grand finale, with our own Ochanya Isaiah carting home the Most Valuable Player award.
Addressing the players, technical crew, and management, Hon. Jibril congratulated the team for making the State proud and announced that the One Million Naira reward would be shared among the players, technical crew, State Football Association, and the Supporters Club. He charged the team to maintain the momentum ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Women's Premier Football League season and assured them of arranging a subsequent presentation to Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe and Executive Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Stephen Iliya Sasetu also applauded the team for their passion and resilience against tough odds.
Responding on behalf of the club, Chairperson Hajiya Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo expressed profound gratitude to the Ministry and Governor Abdullahi Sule for their unwavering backing. She promised to repay the Governor's benevolence with a Premier League title and a continental ticket before the end of his administration in 2027, noting that the squad has been fortified with fresh talent for the new campaign. Assistant Coach Oluwasheyi Michael equally credited the triumph to grit and divine grace.
The memorable reception reached its peak when team captain Confidence Nwoha, Coach Oluwasheyi Michael, and Chairperson Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo officially presented the championship trophy to the Honourable Commissioner, followed by the Chairperson decorating both the Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary with gold medals. Nasarawa Amazons family remains deeply grateful to our fans as we set our sights on dominating the upcoming league season.
