THE FORGOTTEN ANNIVERSARY

The rain fell softly on the windows as Amaka arranged the dining table for two. Candles glowed warmly, and beside the plates sat a small chocolate cake with the words “Forever Us” written shakily in icing.
It was her seventh wedding anniversary with Tunde.
She checked the clock again. 9:17 p.m.
Her husband had promised he would be home early.
“Just one short meeting,” he had said that morning while adjusting his tie. “Tonight is special.”
Amaka smiled sadly at the memory.
Their six-year-old daughter, Zara, had already fallen asleep on the couch while waiting for her father. Tiny curls covered the child’s forehead as she hugged the handmade card she had drawn for him.
At 10:03 p.m., Tunde finally walked in.
“Sorry, traffic was terrible,” he muttered without looking at the decorations.
Amaka forced a smile.
“It’s okay. Food is still warm.”
But as Tunde placed his phone on the table, a message lit up the screen.
“I miss you already ❤️”
Amaka froze.
