🏀 D’TIGRESS FALL TO SOUTH KOREA IN WORLD CUP OPENER

Nigeria’s D’Tigress opened their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign with a 99-81 defeat to South Korea in Berlin.

The African champions stayed close for three quarters but were overpowered in the final period.

South Korea led 26-22 after the first quarter and 48-45 at half-time. They carried a 68-62 advantage into the fourth quarter before pulling away.

Jihyun Park led all scorers with 27 points for South Korea.

Captain Amy Okonkwo finished with 22 points for Nigeria, while Murjanatu Musa recorded a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.

D’Tigress next face Hungary later today.

🇳🇬 AJAYI MAKES HISTORY WITH BRONZE AT DIAMOND LEAGUE FINAL

Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi won bronze in the men’s 100 metres at the 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels.

The 21-year-old clocked 9.97 seconds to finish third at the King Baudouin Stadium, becoming the first Nigerian to stand on the podium in the men’s 100m at a Diamond League Final.

Oblique Seville of Jamaica won the race in 9.90, with Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme taking silver in 9.93.

Ajayi’s time marked his 16th sub-10-second run of the season. He entered the final as a wildcard and still mixed it with the world’s top sprinters.

The result caps a breakthrough year in which he broke Olusoji Fasuba’s long-standing national record with a personal best of 9.84.

💔 NOAH LYLES ENDS 2026 SEASON DUE TO INJURY

Noah Lyles has brought his 2026 season to an early end after suffering an injury.

The American sprint star pulled up during the men’s 200m final at the USATF Championships after a strain flared up during rehabilitation.

As a result, Lyles will miss the Budapest 2026 World Ultimate Championships.
