Arsenal have been dealt a major setback ahead of the Carabao Cup final, with defender Jurrien Timber now expected to miss the match after picking up an injury just days before the showdown.

The right-back was forced off during the first half of Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Everton at the Emirates, unable to continue beyond the 37th minute due to what appears to be a groin problem.

Speaking on Monday, Mikel Arteta provided an update that raised further concern, confirming that both Timber and captain Martin Ødegaard will be unavailable for Tuesday’s Champions League round of 16 second leg.

Their absence also casts serious doubt over their chances of featuring in Sunday’s final against Manchester City at Wembley.

Despite the setback, Arteta remained positive about the squad’s depth, praising the contributions of his substitutes following the win over Everton.
