NEWS ALERT FOR PIG FARMERS IN NIGERIA.

DUTRION team in Nigeria has been monitoring the rate at which the deadly monster, African Swine Fever (ASF) is spreading, infecting and killing pigs at an alarming rate presently in the South West of the country.

This deadly virus has been confirmed at different locations within the following states: Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Delta, Edo, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.

Pig farmers across the country are advised to maintain GOOD & EFFECTIVE BIOSECURITY at this period.

ASF will start with one or two pigs in a pen and will continue to multiply gradually. Ability to quickly notice it's symptoms at early stage is very key.

Note that it usually take between 3 to 4 days before the symptoms will show whenever the virus infected any pig.

The ASF infected pigs will at some point stop eating with symptoms showing on their body, and it will take minimum of 48 hours before these pigs will die.

Do not bother to use any drug on ASF infected pigs that have stopped eating because the virus would have destroyed the intestine, nerves connected the pigs brain, and other vital organs of the pigs. These destroyed organs cannot be restored by any drug.

Never allow any ASF infected pig(s) to remain in your pen and it's environment, otherwise it will keep on multiplying and infecting other pigs.

DO NOT SELL YOUR PIGS BECAUSE OF ASF SCARE.

Be vigilant, maintain good and effective biosecurity.

Early detection of the virus is key.
