🚨MIKEL ARTETA ON HIS NEW ARSENAL CONTRACT: “THERE IS NOTHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT.”

Mikel Arteta has provided an update on his future at Arsenal — and it sounds like it's a case of WHEN, rather than if, a new contract gets signed.

Asked whether he is close to agreeing a new deal, Arteta said:

“I think we are all very much aligned and whenever the time is right we will get it done. There is nothing to be concerned about.”

He was then asked whether an extension could be signed during the upcoming international break, similar to the timing of his previous renewal.

“I don't know if the timing will be the same or different. We both have the same ambition and the same will so whenever we have time we will get that resolved.”

That last sentence probably tells you everything you need to know.

“We both have the same ambition and the same will.”

Arteta wants to continue. Arsenal want him to continue. And judging by his comments, there doesn't appear to be any concern from either side about getting an agreement done.

After finally getting Arsenal over the line last season, Arteta now has the opportunity to build on what he's created and potentially establish a period of sustained success at the club.

Get that contract on the table. ✍️

ARTETA: “WE NEED TO GIVE GYÖKERES ALL THE SUPPORT AND CONFIDENCE THAT HE NEEDS.”

Mikel Arteta has been asked directly whether Viktor Gyökeres is struggling for confidence — and the Arsenal boss was quick to back his striker.

Arteta doesn't believe there is a confidence problem, pointing out that Viktor hasn't actually played that many minutes in the Premier League so far this season.

“Last week he played in Napoli and he had a good game. It is about moments as well and we need to give him all the support and confidence that he needs because we know the player that we have and that he has the capacity to score goals.

“We know what he can give to the team.”

I think that last part is important.

There's been a LOT of discussion around Gyökeres recently because he hasn't started regularly and hasn't yet found the kind of rhythm we're used to seeing from him.

But we're still very early into the season.

Arteta was also asked whether Viktor has fully adapted to Arsenal's style of play, and his answer was interesting.

He explained that Arsenal themselves are doing different things tactically this season, so adapting isn't something unique to Gyökeres.

“It is my job to fit players in, find connections, and find the level of confidence for the players to give their best for the team.”

That's exactly what needs to happen now.

Arteta clearly still believes in VG14 and so do I.

🚨Mikel Arteta on Mosquera, Timber, Ben White and Hincapié’s availability:

“Everyone is fine. We still have another training session this afternoon, but I’m very optimistic about all of them.”

“They all want to be involved, and we’ll use the final session to make sure they’re ready.”

🚨Reporter: Ezri, talk to us about that challenge against Morgan Rogers. That was a powerful, powerful challenge. You timed it perfectly.

🗣️Ezri Konsa: I mean, that’s my job. That’s the job I’m here to do. When you’re playing at this level, especially at a big club, you have to be ready for those moments. Morgan is a very dangerous player, so I knew I had to be strong, stay focused and make sure I got the ball.

Those are the moments where you have to show what you’re about. I’m not going to shy away from a challenge. If I have to put my body on the line for the team, I’ll do it every time. That’s why I’m here, to defend, to compete and to represent this club properly.
