OFFICIAL: Lisandro MartΓ­nez releases new statement after meeting with Carrick and club directors.

β€œToday I met with the club’s leadership and the manager. It was a very positive conversation, where we were able to exchange views and speak openly about what happened after the game”.

β€œEveryone knows that I am a passionate person and that I live football with great intensity. The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones, and for that I want to apologise”.

Following everything that has been said about my comments yesterday, I want to share some thoughts on what I said and how I feel.

After the match, I spoke out of anger and frustration at not getting the result we all wanted.

Those who know me know how I live football, with passion, commitment and a huge desire to win.

And when things don’t go our way, it hurts, especially when representing a club with the history and stature of Manchester United.

My words reflect how I feel and how much I want to see this club competing for the biggest honours. Those high standards are part of how I see football and the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.

When I talk about wanting more, I’m talking about the ambition we must all have as part of this club. To keep growing, to become stronger and to have everything we need to compete at the highest level. These are standards we must all hold ourselves to, starting with me.

I know that, first and foremost, it’s us, the players, who have to deliver, and I put myself at the front of that responsibility. We need to demand even more of ourselves and work together to take Manchester United back to the top.

I believe in my teammates, our manager and everyone working to help this club move forward. I’m convinced that the way forward is to keep working together, with ambition and commitment.

My goal has been the same since day one, to win, to compete at the highest level and to give everything I have for this badge.

β€œWe understand the frustration among our supporters, but it is important to understand how decisions are made at this football club.

Our transfer strategy is not built around the decisions of one individual. Managers are involved in discussions, recruitment planning and key footballing decisions before conclusions are reached. We work collectively to ensure that every decision aligns with the club’s long-term vision.

However, recruitment cannot be used to excuse every poor performance. The manager is responsible for how the team plays, how players are deployed, the intensity of training, tactical adjustments and how the team responds to different situations.

We cannot continue blaming recruitment every time Manchester United fail to beat a team like Hull City or struggle to dominate a match with the players available. There will always be challenges, injuries and difficult circumstances, but a club of this size must find ways to compete regardless.

We are only eight games into the season. Nobody at the club is suggesting that everything is perfect, but it is equally unfair to place the entire responsibility on the board while ignoring the manager's responsibilities.

The board must be accountable for its decisions, and the manager must be accountable for performances on the pitch. Accountability cannot be a one-way street.

Manchester United's problems will not be solved by constantly shifting blame. We need stability, responsibility and a collective commitment to getting this club back where it belongs.”

Lisandro Martinez: β€œWe had a fantastic season last season and now we expect more from the top, from the people upstairs, to bring in more players to compete, because many teams have signed a lot of players as well.

This is not a Champions League quality squad. I think the players can do more, but it's also important to build a strong squad to be ready for these kinds of nights.”

We said this during the transfer window and all that the board could sign is Tielemans and Santos.
