Zenith Emperor FC began their league campaign with a difficult outing, falling 4–1 to Maryland United in their opening match.
The team struggled early on, with several defensive errors and a noticeable lack of concentration in the first half. These lapses proved costly, as three goals were conceded within the opening 20 minutes, effectively putting the game out of reach.
To his credit, Coach John Ayeni responded quickly with tactical adjustments that significantly improved the team’s performance. The changes brought better organization and cohesion, and Zenith Emperor FC looked more composed as the game progressed. However, the early damage had already been done.
Despite the loss, there were positives to take from the second-half response. The match serves as a valuable lesson for the team as they look ahead to their next fixture.
