A consonant cluster is a group of consonant sounds that come together in a word or phrase.

When two or more consonants occur in a word and there is no intervention of a vowel._๐˜‰๐˜ˆ๐˜™๐˜™.๐˜–๐˜š๐˜Š๐˜ˆ๐˜™ ๐˜๐˜ก๐˜Œ๐˜ ๐˜–๐˜™ ๐˜๐˜ ๐˜–๐˜๐˜ˆ

A consonant cluster in a word is a group of consonants with no vowels between them. The longest possible cluster in English is three consonant sounds at the start, such as 'splash', and four at the end, as in 'twelfths'.

Example
The tongue twister 'The sixth twisty crisp' has several consonant clusters in it, making it difficult to pronounce.

_ ๐˜‰๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ฉ ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ค๐˜ช๐˜ญ.

These consonant sounds can appear at the beginning, middle or at the end of words.

When you have them at the beginning of words, it is called initial, when it is found at the middle, it is called medial, and the one that appears at the end of words is called final.

Some words have consonant letters together, but they are not consonant clusters.

Diphthong comes from the Greek word diphthongos which means "having two sounds." Notice the di- for "double." So diphthongs are double vowel sounds in words like chair, fear, or pout.

If two vowels in a row are the same, as in boot or beer, then it's not a diphthong. Linguists, scholars who study language, analyze diphthongs, which differ from language to language.

Ironically, the word diphthong has no diphthongs. _ vocabulary.com

In french it is called diphtongue. This comes from the late middle English.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ1. Diphthongs are double vowel sounds that must be pronounced with movement or glide.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ2. It must be pronounced with two mouth shapes.

To pronounce diphthongs, your mouth shape must move from one vowel to another.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ3. The first vowel must be pronounced stronger, and longer, than the second vowel sound. eg /eษช/will sound like eeeeey as in /e/ as in egg and /ษช/ ink.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ4. The following letter names must be pronounced like /eษช/ at the beginning, not like the shout vowel /ษช/.

๐Ÿ‘‰1. A /eษช/

๐Ÿ‘‰2. H /eษชtสƒ/

These letter names must be pronounced like /eษช/ (ey) at the end, not like the short vowel /ษช/

๐Ÿ‘‰3. J /dส’eษช/

๐Ÿ‘‰4. K./keษช/

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ5. Letter I and Y have the /aษช/ sound.

I /aษช/

Y. /waษช/.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ6. Letter O is pronounced exactly like /ษ™สŠ/

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ7. The total number of diphthongs are 8, although there is a small number of words with /สŠษ™/ sound.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ8. 3 easiest ways to remember diphthongs

1. Ending ษ™

ษชษ™. ear, bear

eษ™. Parent, cairn

สŠษ™. poor, moor

Numerous speakers pronounce /ษ”ห/ in place of /สŠษ™/

2. Ending ษช

eษช. day, face .paint.

This vowel must always start with the first

/e/ as in egg.

/aษช/. time, light, tie.

The first vowel sound is quite similar to /สŒ/ in the word cut, enough, sun.

/ ษ”ษช/ toy, coil, voice.

The first sound of this diphthong must be pronounced with the long vowel /ษ”ห/ as in or in morning, norm, and fork.

3. Ending สŠ

/ ษ™สŠ/ go, so, home. vote

The first vowel in this sound, is the most common sound in English, as a result of that, it has a special name, which is called schwa. (ษ™w) The lips will be slightly rounded in anticipation of the glide towards /สŠ/

There is quite noticeable lip-rounding

/ aสŠ/ how, now brow, cow๐Ÿ‚

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ9. Don't pronounce the diphthongs like the pure vowel sounds(A vowel which remains constant and does not glide. _ Peter Roach)The two vowels must be heard, just like how B and L will be pronounced separately in black. (It must be heard like consonant blend/cluster)

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ 10. As a foreign learner, you must always remember that the last part of English diphthongs must not be too strong.

Did you know there are maths in English?

In fluent speech, native speakers often subtract (omitted/elision ) and add sounds which makes what they are saying easier and faster.

Many people often found it difficult to understand the English native speakers because of this sound addition and subtraction.

I remember the first time I met Gilbert Jolly (the son of Christopher Jolly founder Jolly Learning). He spoke with the math of English by omitting a sound from he said to me.

Did you want to know what he said?

Gilbert said It's nice to mee yuh.

Initially, I found it difficult to comprehend what he meant by meeyuh.

With my skills in spoken English math, I was able to decode MEEYUH. which is meet you.

I know you finding t difficult to understand English native speakers.

Don't be worried, I've come to help you overcome the listening challenge.

Here are 3 Powerful Tips to Understand English Native Speakers Easily And Speak With Confidence And Clarity.

1. N+P = M : Whenever a word ended with the sound "n" and the sound " p" comes immediately after it, the sound "n" will change to "M".
Example: Green Park will change to Greempark
I live in Paris will change to livimParis.

No accent is inferior, but you can adopt any accent you love โค๏ธ because your present accent /voice is not your real voice. You've lost your real voice since you were 2-3 years old. You are speaking right now with the voice/accent you acquired from your environment. You can polish your speaking skills if you understand and master the vocal posture of the accent you'd like to adopt.

I know you might be wondering how it is possible for you to change your voice or adopt your preferred accent.

To know if you can change your voice or not answer this question.

How will you sound if hot water mistakenly spilt on you?

How do you sound when you are speaking to a baby? What type of voice do you use?

How do you sound when you are speaking with your boss?

How will you sound if you are in the library?

How do you sound when you are speaking to your spouse, fiance, girlfriend, or boyfriend on the phone?

How do you sound when you see something that scares you?
How will you sound when you see the pepper seller you've been looking for, in your street?

How do you sound while speaking in your bedroom? what type of voice do you use?

How do you sound at midnight, especially if the place is silent?

How do you speak with your spouse, fiance, boyfriend, or girlfriend on the phone?

How do you speak when you are in the library?

How do you sound when you see that pepper seller you've been looking for, in your street?

Those changes in your voice are examples of vocal archetypes.

If you are using the same voice and emotion in each situation you can't change your voice but if you can't, you can adopt any accent you love which won't stop you from using your first language accent when you need to.

You can switch your accent anytime depending on your audience.

Using in the end and at the end can be a little hard to use as an English language learner or native speaker.

Try this formula

In the end: Finally.

The final result or outcome.

In summary or conclusion.

3. At first she couldnโ€™t understand English, but with great effort, she became fluent in the end.

To be clearer, ask yourself this question.

What happened after everything?"

At the end
๐˜ผ๐™ฉ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™™

What's your greatest fear in communication?

What's your greatest fear in English?

Mine was English spellings and the fear of facing the crowd.

I could remember when I was in primary school.

Whenever my class teacher reads to us in class, she always calls one of the learners out to also read for the class.

My problem wasn't the reading because I used to read to my friends after the teacher had completed the reading period.

One day, after the teacher's reading, she called on a student to read for the class.

Guess who she called?

Yes, I was the one she called.

Omo come and see the way I was shaking like leave.

On my way to the front, the class was clapping and my friends were chanting my name. Tunde! Tunde! Tunde!

when I finally got there I was already soaked with my sweat and when I started reading my voice was skipping like CD๐Ÿ“€ and each word was coming out with tears ๐Ÿ˜ญ.

As a result of the scenario my class teacher didn't leave me, she kept encouraging me and also invited my dad on how they can both help the innocent genius guy.

After some days, my dad bought me a radio, ๐Ÿ“ป bigger than the Palito(a radio brand in 'the 90s) my mate uses then. I was elated but he told me to be using it to listen to news.

I was like NEWS! News ke!

He also brought out some books which looked very colourful. So whenever he is at home, he will sit on the bed ๐Ÿ›Œ and tells me to stay afar from him by reading ๐Ÿ“– out loud for him.

It was very boring initially, but my dad always rewarded my younger brother and me after reading, by giving us biscuits, money, and sometimes Blonblo elejo(a long balloon like a snake) which made it more exciting.

The second thing my dad does was that whenever he observed I'm having challenge with a word, he will get 2A exercise book, then use the word I'm struggling to spell to form a sentence by writing it in the 2A exercise book and then instructed me to write it from the beginning of the book to the middle and sometimes to the end if he wanted to punish
me.

Lastly, he will always tell me to interpret what the newscasters are saying in Yoruba language for him.
My dad wasn't a professional teacher. He was a great teacher, son of Baba teacher, a grammarian, and a CR crime recorder at Nigeria ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Police Force.

He was only 39 years old when died.๐Ÿ˜ญ

May Almighty Allah grant him Al Jannah Firdaus.

I miss you, dad.

Omotapa leepe
Omo otoro be toro abe
Omo onisu mo loungunyan...

Kindly help me say a prayer for my dad and my teacher.
He is my hero.

Do let me know your greatest fear in English and what you've learnt in the story by dropping it in the comment section.

Thanks for reading.
