Maxloaded Media Football Tournament Press Statement.
As we reported in our earlier statement few weeks ago, the Maxloaded Media Football Tournament has no issues with the Benue State Football Association.
During our first meeting with the Benue State Referees Council, we were told to pay ₦6,000 per match. For 68 matches, this would cost ₦408,000. We immediately told them we could not afford this amount. We then wrote to the State FA to inform them.
The FA advised us to negotiate with the Referees Council to reduce the fee to ₦3,000 per match, which would be ₦204,000 for 68 matches. We also informed the FA that we could not raise this amount. Because of this, the tournament was suspended and has remained on hold.
After the suspension, a joint meeting was held with the Chairman of Makurdi Local Football Association, a representative of the Referees Council, and the coaches or representatives of the participating teams. At the meeting, the FA Chairman advised us to continue talks with the Referees Council so that the tournament could resume.
Following this advice, we tried again to contact the Referees Council representative, Damian Akure. We called and sent text many times, but we received no response.
We want the public to know that we have made every effort to reach Mr. Damian Akure and resolve this issue. We have evidence of our messages. The suspension letter came from the FA, but the Benue State Referees Council’s position has kept the tournament on hold. At this point, it feels like even the FA we are affiliated with cannot help us.
We respect the authorities, which is why we are still waiting for their response before taking any further steps.
Note: We are open to discussion and have always been ready to negotiate. However, the current situation seems like a deliberate effort to stop the tournament. This does not reflect our values as grassroots football developers.
Signed,
MMFT Organizing Committee
