*Prostate Enlargement -

*Medical name:* Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia / BPH
*"Benign"* = not cancer. It’s very common as men age.

*What it is*
The prostate is a small gland about the size of a walnut, under the bladder.
With age, especially after 50, it can slowly grow bigger. When it gets too big, it can squeeze the urethra - the tube that carries urine out.

*Common Symptoms*
Think *"urinary problems"*:
- *Frequent urination*, especially at night
- *Urgency* - sudden strong need to go
- *Weak stream* or trouble starting
- *Dribbling* at the end
- *Feeling like bladder isn't fully empty*

Not everyone with an enlarged prostate gets symptoms.

*What causes it*
Exact cause isn't fully known. Main factors:
1. *Age* - risk goes up after 40-50
2. *Hormone changes* with aging
3. *Family history*

*How it's managed*
Depends on how severe symptoms are:
1. *Lifestyle*: Limit fluids at night, cut caffeine/alcohol, go when you feel the urge
2. *Medications*: To relax the prostate or shrink it
3. *Procedures/Surgery*: If meds don’t help or symptoms are severe

*Important notes*
1. *BPH ≠ Prostate Cancer*. They are different, but symptoms can overlap.
2. *Other causes exist* - like infection or diabetes - so symptoms should be checked

The rate at which u have prostrate issues is alarming lately.

It's not longer common is older men, but young men in their late thirties and forties suffer it. Why not pay attention to my next post.
