IBESIKPO WARD 2 EMERGE CHAMPIONS OF MAIDEN IBESIKPO ASUTAN MINIFOOTBALL CHAIRMAN’S CUP

Ibesikpo Ward 2 made history on Friday by beating Ibesikpo Ward 5 with a convincing 3-0 score line to emerge champions of the maiden edition of the Ibesikpo Asutan Minifootball Chairman’s Cup, thanks to goals by Christopher Etuk, Emediong Ita and Samuel Idorenyin.

The tournament, organised by the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Nigeria Minifootball Association and sponsored by the Chairman of Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Hon. Edidiong Inyang, witnessed five days of intense action with six teams across the area involved.

Earlier, Ibesikpo Ward 4 settled for third place after losing their semi final match 1-0 to eventual champions, Ibesikpo Ward 2.

Speaking at the end of the final at the Saint Peter’s Lutheran Primary School, Mbierebe Akpawat, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Minifootball Association, Comrade Mfon Edet, expressed gratitude to Hon Edidiong Inyang, Secretary of the council, Dr Edidiong Essien, the sports committee’s leadership and members as well as referees for a successful tournament.

She further highlighted the gains of the competition to include talent discovery for national and international relevance, youth engagement, enlightenment about the workings of the sport and so much more.

In his remarks, Dr Edidiong Essien, who represented the Local Government Chairman, also appreciated his boss, members of the sports committee, the State Minifootball Association, participating teams and fans for their efforts towards making the tournament successful.

Cash prizes were given to the top three teams while the other three teams, Ibesikpo Ward 3, Asutan Ward 5, and Asutan Ward 6 got a token each for featuring at the tournament.

AKWA IBOM MINIFOOTBALL BOARD, IBESIKPO ASUTAN LGA PARTNER FOR MAIDEN TOURNAMENT

The Nigeria Minifootball Association, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, in partnership with Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, under the leadership of its Chairman, Hon. Edidiong Inyang, has finalised plans for the maiden edition of the Ibesikpo Asutan Minifootball Chairman’s Cup.

Set to commence on Monday, April 20,the competition will feature male teams drawn from various wards of Ibesikpo Asutan LGA.

This initiative marks the first tournament organised by the Akwa Ibom State Minifootball Board led by Comrade Mfon Edet and is geared towards promoting grassroots football, complementing the Chairman’s commitment to sports development, and identifying young talents with the potential to compete at national level and represent Nigeria on the international minifootball stage.

The six-a-side tournament is expected to deliver exciting action and foster community engagement throughout its duration.

AKWA IBOM MINIFOOTBALL BOSS HAILS STATE FA’S GIANT STRIDES; PROMISES PARTNERSHIP FOR GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT

The chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Minifootball Association Mfon Edet has hailed the Akwa Ibom State Football Association led by Mr Samuel Umoh for its giant strides in just a year in charge of football in the south-south state.

Edet gave the commendation when she led her executive on a courtesy call on the Akwa Ibom State FA at the Uyo Township Stadium, Thursday morning.

She commended Umoh’s leadership which has led to significant progress in school football, capacity building for football stakeholders, increased participation in grassroots tournaments among others.

‘We are proud of you and we encourage you to do more,” Edet stated.

Mfon Edet also took time to elaborate on the state of minifootball and the gains Akwa Ibom has recorded as players from the state, Peter Etim, Kufre Eyo and Solomon Akpan featured for the Nigerian national team at the 2021 African Minifootball Championship that was hosted by Nigeria.

In his response, chairman of the Akwa Ibom State FA, Mr Samuel Umoh thanked the Minifootball Association for the visit and promised to collaborate with the body for the development of football at the grassroots and give young people a pathway to escape social vices.

Umoh however called on the minifoootball executive to sensitise the public, coaches and players with the rules of the game and stay focused amidst challenges that may come with the push to grow the game in Akwa Ibom State.
