International Women’s Day Message

Today we celebrate the strength, wisdom, resilience, and beauty of women all over the world. A woman is a pillar of life, a nurturer, and a builder of homes and generations.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let us also remember that one of the greatest strengths of a woman is her ability to build peace and stability in her home. One powerful way to do this is through respect for her man. Respect does not reduce a woman’s value; rather, it reflects her maturity, wisdom, and understanding of the power she carries.

A respected man is often a more responsible, loving, and protective partner. When respect and love flow both ways, the home becomes a place of peace, growth, and honor.

To every woman today:
Be strong. Be wise. Be dignified. And never underestimate the power of respect, character, and grace.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the amazing women out there.

The childhood dreamMy father signed me and my two brothers up for swimming lessons at Olympia hotel. On Saturdays, the instructors will shout out commands that I didn’t understand so ℹ thrashed around at the shallow end of the pool. After each session, I would have consumed three gallons of highly chlorinated water mixed with urine. My eyes will be blood 🩸 shot and sensitive to light.Every Saturday( same story),we were abandoned in the pool to learn. While my brothers were making progress, I wasn’t so I refused to enter the pool. I will stroll around making friends and eating snacks until the driver comes to pick us up.As a young adult, I envied people who could swim smoothly especially the front crawl, covering many laps and kids who could swim at the deep end.Last year, I signed up for swimming lessons at KC Brain swimming academy as an end of year challenge. My friend Mabel, introduced me to the coach.I was nervous because of my childhood experience.I learnt so many things on the first day and my confidence level increased.KC Brain swimming academy coaches broke down the components of swimming into simple , digestible steps, whilst at the same time explaining the dynamics of moving around the pool.I also read his publications on Medium because I was hungry for knowledge.I am a confident swimmer now but there’s always room for improvement. I reap the full benefits of swimming any day I go to the pool.I am glad that my friend introduced me to the academy. My childhood dream finally came true 🙏Thank you.Dr Biobele Theophilus

I learned to swim at a time when everything in my life felt heavy. The pool was nothing special—just blue tiles, the sharp smell of chlorine, echoes bouncing off the walls. But the moment I slipped into the water, the noise of the world softened. Bills, expectations, cluttered thoughts—they all stayed at the edge while I floated. At first, I swam to escape. I counted laps because numbers were easier than feelings. One length, breathe. Another length, breathe again. The water didn’t ask questions. It didn’t care if I was doing well or falling behind. It just held me, as long as I kept moving.Over time, swimming taught me something I didn’t expect: how to be present. You can’t rush a breath underwater. You can’t multitask mid-stroke. If your mind wanders too far, you lose rhythm. So I learned to stay—with the pull of my arms, the kick of my legs, the quiet drum of my heartbeat. On hard days, swimming gave me release. On good days, it gave me joy. It showed me that effort doesn’t always have to feel like struggle—that repetition can be grounding, even meditative. Lap by lap, I felt stronger, not just in my body but in my confidence. I trusted myself more. I knew I could keep going.Swimming helped me understand this:You don’t always need to fight the weight of things. Sometimes you just need to move through them, one steady breath at a time. And every time I climb out of the pool, lighter and calmer, I carry that lesson back into the world with me. Dr. Irene Zawua
