At a year and 8 months of age, after laying fresh farm eggs for 14 months, we bade farewell to our Bovans Black breed of layers some days back.
We had to let them go as the hen day production dropped below 75% and dipped below 70% for a while.
They have done their race and it is time to move as spent layers/chicken meat.
We will miss them.
Egg production looks simple and at the same time technical.
There are certain things that must be fixed in the first 12 weeks of their lives from when they arrived as day old chicks.
Feeding must be optimal and the lighting also has a role to play.
Most importantly is water management as well as the quality of the water and the state of the pipes and tanks.
To stay profitable in egg production, all of these and more must be taken care of.

Today at exactly 16 weeks and 3 days of age, another batch of our ISA brown birds layed their first eggs.
We are excited as additional 900 eggs per day as been added to our output capacity.

We recently expanded our broiler production capacity by another 3000 birds capacity.
This is due to increase in demand both from our wholesale customers as well as our retail customers via our sister access to market company Chicken Palace
We will continually work harder to meet the demands of our teeming and loyal customers and clients.

This set of birds came into lay May 13 when we saw the very first eggs. As at today, they have done close to 70% hen day production. Our target is a averagely between 85% and 90%.

Our Gbarantoru production facility some nights back. Initially commissioned in 2015 and upgraded in 2020, this facility currently holds 4000 layer birds capacity and about 2000 capacity brooding house. We churn out an of average of 3,200 to 3,500 eggs everyday from here.

Day old chicks are very tender. They need a lot of care till they are able to fend for themselves.
This brooding house is getting set to receive her new occupants.

NEW DAY OLD BIRDS ALERT!
We received some cartons of Lohmann Brown day old chicks earlier in the week.
We expect fresh farm eggs from this stock in about 20 weeks.
