The crash was spectacular.

The onboard was the part that fascinated me.

His teammate spins directly in front of him, and Nico somehow avoids turning one incident into two.

That’s where I make an important distinction:

Reaction time is a “brace for impact” skill.
Anticipation is a “survive the situation” skill.

Elite athletes don’t just react faster. Research shows they become better at picking up relevant visual cues, recognising patterns and predicting what is about to happen.

And importantly: anticipation is trainable.

That’s one reason we use at Maverick.

We train cognitive performance, attention, inhibition and decision-making under increasing fatigue and pressure.

Because at 250+ km/h, being fast after something happens is useful.

Seeing it coming is better.

Nico gave a pretty convincing demonstration of that at Zandvoort.

The Ice Vest Trap: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀

Trackside this weekend in the heat, I saw almost zero drivers utilizing a proper thermal strategy (outside of our drivers). Except one wearing an ice vest before jumping in.

An 'A' for effort, but physiologically? It makes cooling down much harder.

Here is why that ice vest backfires and destroys performance:

- 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆
Extreme cold directly against the skin triggers vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels). By closing those vessels, you shut down the highway, hot blood from your core can't reach the skin surface to dump heat. You trap core heat inside. Once the vest melts in 15 minutes, you’re just wearing a heavy, wet layer of insulation.

- 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁
When core temperature spikes, brain endurance plummets:
- Cognitive Decline: Spatial awareness drops and reaction times slow.
- Tunnel Vision: Mental fatigue leads to missed apexes and late braking.
- Errors: Brain capacity drains, causing unforced mistakes in the final laps.

- 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆
True thermal management shifts your core baseline. Use controlled (dosage/timing) ice-slurry ingestion to cool from the inside out without freezing the skin, or utilize active, continuous liquid-cooling garments that maintain a moderate, consistent temperature,never freezing ice.

If you aren’t actively managing your heat, you are giving away lap time.

The Green Hell because "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗠𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹" was too long for the signage. Most folks think surviving 24 hours of this requires just a fast car and a very expensive helmet.

​They are wrong.

Mental fatigue is the actual bottleneck of human endurance. When your brain is cooked, your physical capacity drops through the floor. You don't just feel tired. You perform worse.

This weekend, Morris Schuring, Colin Caresani, Nicky Catsburg, and Tom Coronel are putting their training to the test. They aren't just driving. They are managing high-performance ecosystems under extreme cognitive load.

​I had our team create premium engineering posters for their machines to celebrate the weekend. They look better than my high school yearbook photos and contain significantly more technical skill.

𝗡𝗔𝗦𝗔 𝘃𝘀. 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗲𝘅:: Why ‘Hope’ is a Terrible Survival Strategy.

Let’s be real. If you’re hitting a corner at 150mph, your ego is usually screaming that you’re invincible. It’s a great feeling. It’s also exactly how you end up as a very expensive piece of track-side modern art.

NASA uses this:
𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆.

While we’re busy visualizing the champagne and the podium, NASA is busy obsessing over the "𝙆𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙢."

They don’t just plan for the launch; they engineer for the catastrophe.

Let's bring that NASA Mindset to the Grid:
- Ditch the Vision Board: Stop just manifesting the perfect lap. Start a Pre-Mortem.
- Study the Disaster: Visualize the brake fade. The oil slick. The guy in P3 who clearly forgot his morning coffee.
- Lower the Heart Rate: When things actually go sideways, you don’t panic. You just execute "System C." You’re calm, collected, and significantly less likely to need an awkward phone call with your insurance agent.

The Lesson? Anticipating the worst isn't being "negative", it's being un-f*ckup-able. NASA doesn't leave the moon to chance, and you shouldn't leave Turn 4 to "good vibes." Stress-test your race before you even put the helmet on.

Go fast. Don’t be a firework. ✌️

Space is actively trying to melt your bones and turn your organs into expensive soup. Spent last week at Spaceflight Human Optimization and Performance Summit learning how we stop that. For those of us building high-performance ecosystems for elite drivers and CEOs, space is the ultimate stress test. If it works at -230°C with a 2.5L water limit, it’ll work in a boardroom.

The Space-Grade Performance Protocol:
- Predictive Biology: We’re moving past "feeling" tired. Using cartilage biomarkers to predict morphological changes before they happen. Pre-flight exercise volume is now a direct predictor of mission success.

- The Integrated Monitoring System: High performance isn't a straight line; it’s two loops. A "Short Loop" using HRV and readiness data to pivot daily programming, and a "Long Loop" for strategic periodization. It’s adaptive, not arbitrary.

- Training Tech: Elite strength training without a power outlet. It uses passive Constant Force Mechanisms to simulate inertia and provide resistance in deep space. No electricity, no excuses.

- Cognitive Load: Lunar EVAs require a terrifying blend of geological knowledge and sensorimotor "abilities."
We’re using AI-guided tools and clinical interfaces to keep the "Human in the Loop" from redlining.

Bottom line: Constraints create better systems. If we can optimize a meat-suit for the lunar surface using Vertex AI and sensorimotor oscillations, your 9-to-5 just lost its "too busy to train" card.
